A Description of Self-Esteem And Agressive Behaviour of Vocational High School Students in Inter Gang Social Conflict
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan tingkat self-
esteem dan perilaku agresif pada siswa Sekolah Menengah
Kejuruan (SMK) yang terlibat dalam konflik sosial antar geng
di sekolah. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif
deskriptif dengan metode survei. Subjek penelitian berjumlah
60 siswa yang teridentifikasi memiliki keterlibatan dalam
interaksi sosial berbasis kelompok atau geng. Data
dikumpulkan menggunakan angket berskala Likert lima
tingkat yang mengukur self esteem dan perilaku agresif. Hasil
penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat self-esteem siswa
berada pada kategori sedang dengan nilai rata-rata 3,7 (setara
55,5 pada skala 15–75). Perilaku agresif juga berada pada
kategori sedang dengan nilai rata-rata 2,5 (setara 45 pada skala
Temuan ini mengindikasikan bahwa siswa memiliki persepsi
diri yang cukup positif, namun belum sepenuhnya stabil, serta
masih menunjukkan kecenderungan perilaku agresif dalam
taraf menengah, terutama dalam bentuk agresi verbal pada
situasi konflik antar geng.Secara umum, konflik sosial antar
geng di lingkungan sekolah lebih dipengaruhi oleh kebutuhan pengakuan sosial dan dinamika identitas kelompok sebaya
dibandingkan dorongan agresivitas murni. Temuan ini
menegaskan pentingnya peran layanan bimbingan dan
konseling dalam memperkuat stabilitas self-esteem, regulasi
emosi, dan keterampilan penyelesaian konflik sebagai upaya
pencegahan konflik sosial di sekolah.

This study aims to describe the levels of self-esteem and
aggressive behavior among vocational high school (SMK)
students involved in inter-gang social conflicts at school. A
descriptive quantitative approach with a survey method was
employed. The participants consisted of 60 students identified
as being involved in group- or gang-based social interactions.
Data were collected using five-point Likert scale
questionnaires measuring self-esteem and aggressive
behavior. The findings indicate that students’ self-esteem was
categorized as moderate, with an average score of 3.7
(equivalent to 55.5 on a 15–75 scale). Similarly, aggressive
behavior was also classified as moderate, with an average score
of 2.5 (equivalent to 45 on a 15–75 scale). These results suggest
that students possess a relatively positive self-perception,
although it is not yet fully stable, and they still exhibit
moderate aggressive tendencies, particularly in the form of
iverbal aggression during inter-gang conflicts. Overall, inter
gang social conflicts in schools are influenced more by the need
for social recognition and peer group identity dynamics than
by pure aggressive impulses. This study highlights the
importance of school counseling services in strengthening self-
esteem stability, emotional regulation, and constructive
conflict-resolution skills as preventive efforts to reduce social
conflicts in the school environment.
