REPRESENTASI STANDAR KECANTIKAN TIONGKOK PADA PODCAST “TALKING ABOUT CHINESE BEAUTY STANDARDS” YOUTUBE MANDARIN CORNER
REPRESENTATION OF CHINESE BEAUTY STANDARDS IN THE YOUTUBE PODCAST 'TALKING ABOUT CHINESE BEAUTY STANDARDS' BY MANDARIN CORNER
Penelitian ini merupakan salah satu penelitian kualitatif yang dilakukan untuk mengungkapkan representasi standar kecantikan Tiongkok dalam podcast “Talking about Chinese Beauty Standards” di kanal YouTube Mandarin Corner. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan teori semiotika Barthes untuk menganalisis tanda-tanda yang ditemukan dalam podcast. Tanda-tanda representasi standar kecantikan Tiongkok tersebut kemudian dianalisis makna denotasi dan konotasinya.
Pada penelitian ini menggunakan metode Simak Bebas Libat Cakap (SBLC). Makna denotasi dijelaskan dengan mendeskripsikan tanda yang ditemukan, yaitu berupa tindak tutur antartokoh dan gambar yang mengandung tanda standar kecantikan Tiongkok. Pada makna konotasi, tanda-tanda tersebut akan dianalisis dan dihubungkan dengan budaya, norma, dan kepercayaan yang ada di Tiongkok.
Bentuk standar kecantikan Tiongkok yang ditemukan pada penelitian ini yaitu, standar kecantikan warna kulit, tekstur kulit, bentuk wajah, bentuk hidung, bentuk mata, bentuk bibir, bentuk badan, tinggi badan ideal, dan berat badan. Tindak tutur dan gambar dalam podcast memberikan gambaran yang jelas mengenai standar kecantikan Tiongkok sesuai dengan pembahasan podcast tersebut. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa tanda standar kecantikan Tiongkok paling banyak ditemukan yaitu mengenai bentuk bibir, hal ini terjadi karena bibir merupakan salah satu komponen wajah yang menentukan rupa seseorang.

This research is the one of qualitative research conducted to reveal the representating Chinese beauty standards in a podcast tittled “Talking about Chinese Beauty Standards” in the Mandarin Corner YouTube channel. This research is using the theory of semiotics by Barthes to analyze the signs that found in the podcast. The signs that representating Chinese beauty standards will be analyzed the denotative and connotative meanings.
This research is using SBLC methods. The denotative meanings were explained by describing the signs, which included speech acts between characters and images containing signs of Chinese beauty standards. Regarding connotative meanings, these signs were analyzed and connected to the cultural norms and beliefs prevalent in China.
The identified Chinese beauty standards in this research are skin color, skin texture, facial shape, nose shape, eye shape, lip shape, body shape, ideal height, and weight. The dialogue and the images during podcast provide clearly the depictions as the podcast disscussing about. The speech acts and images in the podcast provided a clear portrayal of Chinese beauty standards as discussed in the podcast. The data analysis results indicated that the most frequently encountered sign of Chinese beauty standards pertained to lip shape, its because lips are a defining feature of one's face appearance.
