This
research discusses the Jaripah Dance
which was created by Subari Sofyan in 2012 in the city of Banyuwangi. The dance
creation was inspired by Jaripah's
play in the Barong Kemiren performance. The uniqueness of the ideas and ideas
of the Jaripah dance attracted the
attention of researchers. This study aims to describe the background of Subari
Sofyan as a choreographer, the creative process of creating the Jaripah dance, and the elements of the
Jaripah dance.
This study used a descriptive method with a
qualitative approach. The object of this study was the Jaripah Dance examined from the creative process which encompasses
the elements of dance such as themes, movements, make-up, costume, dance
accompaniment, floor patterns and properties. The source of this study was
Subari Sofyan as the choreographer of the Jaripah
dance. The data collection technique was conducted by using observation,
interview and documentation. The data analysis was conducted by applying a
qualitative descriptive approach using the steps of data reduction, data
display and drawing conclusion.
The results showed that the process of
creating Jaripah Dance was inspired by the Jaripah
play at the Barong Kemiren performance. The purpose of this creation is to
participate in the Dance Work Festival in Banyuwangi in 2012. Subari Sofyan's
creativity in doing Jaripah Dance includes the exploration stage, namely
exploration, understanding, reflection related to the Kemiren barong ritual,
improvisation stage through spontaneous search for motion, evaluation stage of
selection and movement selection according to the theme, the elements of Jaripah Dance are themes, movements,
make-up, clothing, accompaniment, floor patterns, and properties.
