An Analysis of Ontological Metaphor in the Lyrics of Yoasobi's Album The Book 2 ザ・ブック・ツー
Album Seri The Book karya Yoasobi memang banyak digemari oleh para penggemar musik Jepang. Namun para pendengar belum pasti mengetahui makna dibalik kata-kata puitis milik Yoasobi. Oleh karena itu dilakukan lah penelitian pada album The Book 2 karena album ini mencakup banyak kalimat yang menggunakan metafora. Penelitian ini mengkaji penggunaan gaya bahasa dalam lirik lagu berbahasa Jepang modern atau lebih spesifiknya penggunaan metafora ontologis dalam album The Book 2 karya Yoasobi. Fokus utama penelitian kali ini yaitu mengklasifikasikan jenis metafora ontologis yang digunakan serta bagaimana fungsi kognitif metafora tersebut merepresentasikan emosi dari sang tokoh. Landasan teoretis yang digunakan untuk menganalisis jenis-jenis metafora ontologis serta bagaimana fungsi kognitif metafora tersebut dapat mengekspresikan emosi sang tokoh yang terdapat dalam album yakni teori jenis-jenis metafora ontologis yang dikemukakan oleh Lakoff dan Johnson serta dan fungsi kognitif metafora milik Kövecses. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Data penelitian berupa kalimat penggalan lirik yang dikumpulkan menggunakan metode studi dokumentasi. Dari penelitian ini didapatkan hasil sebanyak 36 penggalan lirik yang mengandung metafora ontologis, dengan total 15 data merupakan ontologis entitas dan substansi, 12 data merupakan ontologis wadah sementara 9 data sisanya merupakan ontologis personifikasi. Lalu terdapat total 27 data lirik yang makna emosional nya difokuskan kepada respon emosi, dan juga total 9 data lirik yang makna emosionalnya difokuskan kepada respon dan penyebab emosi. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa, lagu Yoasobi memang paling banyak menggunakan perumpamaan sebagai entitas untuk menunjukkan emosi sang tokoh, juga melalui perumpamaan tersebut, metafora berfungsi sebagai instrumen pemetaan kognitif. Metafora tersebut berhasil menjadikan kompleksitas pengalaman emosional tokoh menjadi bayangan konkret dan dinamis yang memudahkan pendengar memahami ketulusan emosional serta kepasrahan sunyi sang tokoh.
The series album The Book by Yoasobi is widely popular among Japanese music enthusiasts. However, listeners do not necessarily understand the deeper meanings behind Yoasobi's poetic lyrics. Therefore, this study was conducted on The Book 2 album, as it comprises numerous sentences that employ metaphors. This study examines the use of stylistic devices in modern Japanese song lyrics, specifically focusing on the use of ontological metaphors in Yoasobi's album The Book 2. The primary focus of this research is to classify the types of ontological metaphors utilized and to analyze how their cognitive functions represent the characters' emotions. The theoretical frameworks used to analyze the types of ontological metaphors and their cognitive functions in expressing the characters' emotions are the ontological metaphor typology proposed by Lakoff and Johnson, alongside Kövecses' theory of metaphorical cognitive functions. This study employs a descriptive qualitative research design. The research data consists of excerpted lyric sentences collected through the documentation study method. The results of this study revealed 36 lyric excerpts containing ontological metaphors, consisting of 15 data points categorized as entity and substance metaphors, 12 data points as container metaphors, and the remaining 9 data points as personification metaphors. Furthermore, there are 27 lyric data points whose emotional meaning focuses on the behavioral response to emotion, and 9 lyric data points that focus on both the cause and response to emotion. It can be concluded that Yoasobi's songs predominantly utilize entities as conceptualizations to convey the characters' emotions. Moreover, through these conceptualizations, metaphors function as cognitive mapping instruments. These metaphors successfully transform the complexity of the characters' emotional experiences into concrete and dynamic imagery, thereby enabling listeners to easily comprehend the characters' emotional sincerity and silent resignation.
