Tesis ini difokuskan pada pengungkapan presentasi realisme magis dalam Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children oleh Riggs. Analisis tesis didasarkan pada dua pertanyaan penelitian utama. Yang pertama adalah representasi dari Realisme Magis dan yang kedua adalah efek dari realisme magis itu sendiri terhadap identitas Jacob Portman sebagai karakter utama. Tesis ini membahas bagaimana fenomena magis disajikan dalam teks dan membangun alur cerita. Dengan menggunakan lima elemen teori Realisme Sihir oleh Faris, fenomena akhirnya ditemukan. Tesis ini juga menggunakan teori Identitas oleh Lacan untuk menganalisis perubahan identitas Yakub sebagai efek dari keanehan dan keberadaan realisme magis. Jacob, sebagai karakter utama dalam novel, dikenal sebagai anak aneh yang bisa melihat monster yang membunuh kakeknya. Ia menjadi depresi setelah kakeknya meninggal. Dia akhirnya bisa menemukan identitas aslinya setelah melalui proses yang melelahkan. Di sini, teori identitas oleh Lacan digunakan untuk menganalisis teks, terutama tahap imajiner dan tahap cermin.

Kesimpulannya, tesis ini menggunakan lima elemen teori realisme magis, mereka adalah elemen dunia yang tak tersederhanakan, fenomenal, penggabungan alam, dan gangguan waktu, ruang, dan identitas. Setiap elemen dapat menemukan fenomena fantastik dan logis dalam teks. Tesis ini meneliti bagaimana teks menyajikan dunia magis ke dalam teks tetapi masih terasa logis. Ada hal-hal supernatural dan luar biasa yang terjadi dalam teks. Sebagai contoh, kehadiran seorang gadis yang sedang terbang, seorang anak laki-laki yang dapat melihat monster, perjalanan waktu, dll. Fenomena ini semuanya bergabung dengan peristiwa nyata yang terjadi di dunia nyata, seperti invasi Jerman di Polandia, Perang Dunia Kedua, dan nama beberapa negara yang disebutkan (Britania, Wales, dll).

This thesis is focused on revealing the presence of magical realism in Riggs’ Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. The analysis of the thesis is grounded on two main research questions. The first is the representation of Magical Realism and second are the effects of magical realism itself toward the identity of Jacob Portman as the main character. This thesis examines how magical phenomenon is presented in the text and building the storylines. By using five elements of Magical Realism theory by Faris, the phenomena are finally found. It also uses the theory of Identity by Lacan to analyze the changing identity of Jacob as the effect of being peculiar and the existence of magical realism. Jacob, as the main character in the novel, is known as a peculiar child who can see the monsters which killed his Grandpa. He becomes depressed after his grandpa died. He finally could find his real identity after went through a tiring process. Here, the theory of identity by Lacan is used to analyze the text, especially the stage of imaginary and mirror stage.

In conclusion, this thesis used five elements of magical realism theory, they are the element of irreducible, phenomenal world, merging realms, and the disruption of time, space, and identity. Each element can depict the fantastical and logical phenomena in the text. This thesis examines how the text presented a magical world into the text but somehow still feels logic. There are supernatural and extraordinary things occur in the text. For examples, the presence of a girl who is flying, a boy who can see monsters, time-traveling, and etc. These phenomena are all intermingled to the real events that happened and exist in the real world, such as German invasion of Polland, Second World War, and the mentioned name of several states (Britain, Welsh, etc).
