Resilience of Migrant Students in Surabaya City who Receive Social Support from the Christian Community

Dengan menggunakan pendekatan fenomenologi, penelitian metode kualitatif ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana proses terbentuknya resiliensi pada mahasiswa Kristen yang merantau di kota Surabaya, melalui dukungan sosial dari komunitas Kristen. Data dalam penelitian ini dikumpulkan melalui wawancara semi terstruktur dengan tujuh mahasiswa rantau yang berasal dari luar pulau Jawa, dan dipilih menggunakan metode purposive sampling dengan mempertimbangkan empat kriteria partisipan. Penelitian ini menggunakan teknik Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), dan ditemukan hasil bahwa walaupun tidak semua sumber resiliensi dimiliki oleh setiap partisipan, dan terdapat perbedaan proses pada setiap diri mereka, namun komunitas Kristen memiliki peran dalam setiap proses partisipan untuk mencapai adaptasi yang lebih baik. Hal tersebut dibuktikan melalui setiap pernyataan yang diberikan partisipan yaitu mereka seringkali menyebutkan kehadiran komunitas Kristen dalam proses adaptasi mereka. Hal itu berkaitan dengan tingkat resiliensi yang dimana ketika partisipan memiliki resiliensi diri yang baik, mereka akan lebih mudah untuk beradaptasi di lingkungan baru. Maka dari itu peran komunitas Kristen sebagai dukungan sosial bagi mahasiswa rantau sangatlah penting.

Using a phenomenological approach, this qualitative research method aims to find out how the process of developing resilience in Christian students who have migrated to the city of Surabaya, through social support from the Christian community. The data in this research was collected through semi-structured interviews with seven overseas students from outside Java, and were selected using a purposive sampling method by considering four participant criteria. This research used Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) techniques, and the results found that although not all sources of resilience are owned by each participant, and there are different processes for each of them, the Christian community has a role in each participant's process to achieve better adaptation. This is proven through every statement given by the participants, namely that they often mention the presence of the Christian community in their adaptation process. This is related to the level of resilience, where when participants have good self-resilience, it will be easier for them to adapt to new environments. Therefore, the role of the Christian community as social support for overseas students is very important.
