CULTURE REPRESENTATION IN ILLUSTRATION BY KARYA HARI PRASETIYO (@harimerdeka)

Abstrak

Hari Prasetiyo ilustrator yang cukup aktif dalam membagikan ilustrasinya melalui media sosial. Dikenal melalui ilustrasi Jokowi Tintin sebagai media kampanye pemilihan presiden di tahun 2014. Kolaborasi tersebut membuat dia dan rekannya mendapat penghargaan tingkat dunia yaitu Shorty Award. Ilustrasinya kemudian tidak hanya memuat politik namun semakin beragam mulai dari pelestarian lingkungan, toleransi hingga budaya lokal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) melakukan signifikasi semiotika dari karya ilustrasi Hari Prasetiyo dan (2) mendeskripsikan adanya representasi budaya pada ilustrasi Hari Prasetiyo. Signifikasi dilakukan pada sampel yang dianggap mempunyai kesesuaian dengan kriteria dan topik penelitian. Teori yang digunakan adalah semiotika dari Roland Barthes. Jenis penelitian yang dilakukan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan hasil berupa teks narasi dan tabel. Temuan dari penelitian adalah (1) karya Hari Prasetiyo memanfaatkan tanda-tanda dari banyak lokasi dalam menyusun ilustrasinya, serta (2) budaya direpresentasikan melalui bentuk yang jelas serta memuat beberapa nilai dengan samar.

Abstract

Hari Prasetiyo as an illustrator is active enough to share his work in internet by his very own instagram account. Known from his previous work Jokowi Tintin which has function as a presidential campaign at 2014. By those collaboration he and his partner won an international scale award named Shorty Award. Later, his illustration not just contain political theme but also more variegated value such environmental issue, tolerance behavior also local culture. This research means to (1) do the semiotic significance of illustration by Hari Prasetiyo and (2) describes the cultural representation aspect of Hari Prasetiyo’s work. The significance process will applies to the sample which  appropriate with criteria and research topic. This research will uses semiotic theory by Roland Barthes. The kind of the study is qualitative describtive with the end result as a narrative text and table. The result is (1) Hari Prasetiyo’s illustration uses multiple signs from different place and (2) culture had been represented by concrete form and contain some values implicitly.
