Novel Tiba Sebelum Berangkat karya Faisal Oddang memiliki kisah dengan topik sensitif karena menceritakan pembantaian bissu oleh tentara islam dengan tokoh-tokoh homoseksual. Penelitian ini berpusat pada tokoh gay yang mengalami perubahan identitas karena dipengaruhi oleh lingkungan. Perubahan identitas yang tidak tetap tersebut dibahas dalam teori queer Butler yang menyatakan setiap identitas bersifat tidak tetap dan dapat berubah karena konstruksi sosialnya.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui identitas homoseksual yang mengalami perubahan, dan perubahan identitas tersebut dapat diketahi melalui sebuah tindakan atau performa.sesuai apa yang dijelaskan dalam teori Butler, performativitas yang dapat diteliti yaitu performativitas penampilan dan fisik, performativitas perbincangan homoseksual, dan performatifitas aktivitas seksual tokoh gay.

Penelitian ini memanfaatkan teori queer yang diuraikan oleh Butler. Dalam terori tersebut terdapat konsep performa atau tindakan yang menghasilkan identitas yang asli. Performa tersebut mencangkup tindakan, peran, perilaku, kata, dan hasrat merupakan bentuk itu merupakan tompangan sosial yang terealisasikan.

Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pertama, pada performatifitas penampilan dan fisik menampakkan jika seorang gay tidak harus berperilaku  dan berpakaian feminim. Kedua, performativitas perbincangan gay yang sadar dan mengaku akan identitasnya kepada orang lain. Pengakuan tersebut dikatakan pada orang yang mereka percaya dan bisa menerima keberadaan mereka, termasuk pasangan gay mereka. Ketiga, performativitas aktivitas seksual pasangan gay terjadi dan terealisasikan, ataupun hanya hasrat yang menjadi angan-angan. Dari hasil analisis performativitas identitas tersebut, tindakan atau performa  dipengaruhi oleh lingkungan, terjadi secara berkala dan bersifat tidak tetap, yang kemudian membentuk identitas gender pada masing-masing tokoh.

Novel Tiba Sebelum Berangkat by Faisal Oddang has a sensitive topic because it tells the bissu massacre by Islamic soldiers with homosexual figures. This study focuses on gay leaders who experience a change in identity because they are influenced by the environment. Changes in non-permanent identities are discussed in Butler's queer theory which states that each identity is non-permanent and can be changed due to its social construction.

This study aims to determine the homosexual identity that has changed, and the change in identity can be resolved through an action or performance. According to what is explained in Butler's theory, the performativity that can be investigated is the appearance and physical performance, the homosexuality of the homosexual conversation, and the performance of the sexual activity of the characters gay.

This study utilizes the queer theory outlined by Butler. In the theory there is the concept of performance or action that results in a genuine identity. The performance includes actions, roles, behaviors, words, and desires which are forms of realized social strikes.

The results showed that first, the appearance and physical performance of the show if a gay person does not have to behave and dress feminine. Second, performativity of gay conversation that is conscious and claims to be identified with others. The confession was said to people they trusted and could accept their whereabouts, including their gay partners. Third, the sexual activity of gay couples occurs and is realized, or just desires are wishful thinking. From the results of the analysis of identity performativity, actions or performance influenced by the environment, occur periodically and are not permanent, which then forms the gender identity of each character.
