Pengembangan Motif Batik Khas Muhammad Salam Sidoarjo Dengan Teknik Cap

Development of Muhammad Salam's Distinctive Batik Motifs from Sidoarjo Using the Stamping Technique

Industri Batik Tulis Muhammad Salam di Sidoarjo telah melestarikan tradisi batik tulis sejak tahun 1985 dengan motif khas daerah. Namun upaya pengembangan batik cap mengalami kegagalan akibat kendala teknis produksi dan rendahnya minat pasar, terutama karena desain motif yang terlalu rumit dan tidak sesuai dengan karakteristik teknik batik cap. Kondisi ini menunjukkan perlunya pengembangan motif batik cap yang tetap mempertahankan identitas lokal Sidoarjo, namun lebih efisien dan aplikatif dalam proses produksi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan konsep, proses, dan hasil motif batik cap khas Industri Batik Muhammad Salam Sidoarjo yang bersifat cap Friendly tanpa menghilangkan ciri visual utama industri. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian dan pengembangan (Research and Development) dengan tahapan meliputi identifikasi potensi dan masalah, studi literatur, perancangan desain motif, pembuatan desain canting cap, validasi oleh ahli akademisi dan praktisi industri, revisi desain, serta uji penerapan terbatas melalui proses produksi batik cap.

Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengembangan motif dilakukan melalui penyederhanaan bentuk, penebalan garis,

pengaturan jarak antar motif, serta pembagian motif utama, pendukung, dan pinggiran. Dari 17 desain canting cap yang dikembangkan, diperoleh 4 motif batik cap yang dinyatakan layak oleh validator, yaitu Motif Sasana Panen Rasa, Motif Terong, Motif Laskar Urang, dan Motif Parang Urang, yang memiliki keterbacaan motif baik, konsistensi hasil cap, serta sesuai dengan identitas lokal Sidoarjo. Penelitian ini mengembangkan motif batik cap yang disesuaikan dengan karakteristik teknis produksi berpotensi mendukung efisiensi dan keberlangsungan pengembangan batik cap di Industri Batik Muhammad Salam Sidoarjo, meskipun masih perlu pengujian pada skala produksi yang lebih luas.

The Muhammad Salam Hand-Painted Batik Industry in Sidoarjo has been preserving the tradition of hand-drawn batik, using distinctive regional motifs, since 1985. However, efforts to develop stamped batik have failed due to technical production constraints and low market demand, primarily due to overly complex designs that do not align with the characteristics of stamped batik techniques. This situation highlights the need to develop stamped batik motifs that maintain Sidoarjo's local identity while being more efficient and applicable in the production process. This study aims to develop the concept, process, and results of stamped batik motifs typical of the Muhammad Salam Sidoarjo Batik Industry which are stamp friendly without eliminating the main visual characteristics of the industry. The method used is research and development with stages including identification of potential and problems, literature studies, designing motif designs, making stamped batik designs, validation by academic experts and industry practitioners, design revisions, and limited application tests through the stamped batik production process.

The results of the study indicate that the development of motifs is carried out through simplification of shapes, thickening of lines, spacing between motifs, and the division of main, supporting, and border motifs. From the 17 canting cap designs developed, 4 batik cap motifs were

declared worthy by the validator, namely the Sasana Panen Rasa Motif, the Terong Motif, the Laskar Urang Motif, and the Parang Urang Motif, which have good motif legibility, consistency of stamp results, and are in accordance with the local identity of Sidoarjo. The research develops stamped batik motifs adapted to the technical characteristics of production has the potential to support the efficiency and thirst for stamped batik development in the Muhammad Salam Sidoarjo Batik Industry, although testing on a wider production scale is still needed.
