CREATING COLLAGE ARTWORK USING WASTE MATERIALS WITH A FOLKLORE THEME BY EIGHT-GRADE STUDENT OF SMP NEGERI 22

Pembelajaran seni rupa memiliki peran penting dalam mengembangkan kreativitas, keterampilan, dan apresiasi siswa terhadap karya seni. Salah satu kegiatan yang dapat diterapkan adalah berkarya kolase menggunakan bahan limbah sebagai media kreatif sekaligus sarana pembelajaran berbasis lingkungan. Tema cerita rakyat dipilih untuk mengenalkan nilai budaya dan pesan moral kepada siswa melalui karya visual. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan persiapan pembelajaran, proses pelaksanaan, hasil karya, serta tanggapan guru dan siswa terhadap kegiatan berkarya kolase berbahan limbah kulit kayu dan kain perca batik bertema cerita rakyat pada siswa kelas VIII-B SMP Negeri 22 Surabaya. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan metode naturalistik. Subjek penelitian terdiri atas 34 siswa yang dibagi menjadi enam kelompok. Data diperoleh melalui observasi, wawancara, dokumentasi, hasil angket, dan hasil karya kemudian dianalisis data dan diakhiri dengan validitas melalui triangulasi Persiapan pembelajaran meliputi penyusunan modul ajar, materi, contoh karya, serta alat dan bahan. Proses pembelajaran dilaksanakan dalam empat pertemuan yang mencakup penyampaian materi, pembuatan sketsa, pewarnaan media, penerapan teknik kolase, dan presentasi hasil karya. Penilaian karya menggunakan kategori sangat baik, baik, cukup, kurang, dan sangat kurang. Hasil penilaian menunjukkan presentase kesuksesan kesesuaian tema 96,6% , komposisi 90,0% , kreativitas 90,0%, kerapian 83,4% ,proporsi 76,6%. Guru dan siswa memberikan tanggapan positif karena kegiatan ini mampu meningkatkan kreativitas, motivasi belajar, kepedulian lingkungan, serta pemahaman terhadap budaya lokal Jawa Timur.
Art education plays an important role in developing students’ creativity, skills, and appreciation of works of art. One learning activity that can be implemented is creating collage artworks using waste materials as a creative medium while promoting environmentally based learning. The theme of folklore was selected to introduce cultural values and moral messages to students through visual artworks. This study aimed to describe the learning preparation, the implementation process, the students’ artworks, and the responses of both the teacher and students toward collage-making activities using waste bark and batik fabric scraps with a folklore theme among Grade VIII-B students at SMP Negeri 22 Surabaya.This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach using a naturalistic method. The research participants consisted of 34 students divided into six groups. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, questionnaires, and students’ artworks. The data were analyzed qualitatively, and the validity of the findings was ensured through triangulation.The learning preparation included developing teaching modules, preparing instructional materials, providing sample artworks, and organizing the required tools and materials. The learning process was conducted over four meetings, covering the presentation of learning materials, sketching, coloring the media, applying collage techniques, and presenting the completed artworks. The artworks were assessed using five categories: excellent, good, fair, poor, and very poor. The assessment results showed success rates of 96.6% for theme suitability, 90.0% for composition, 90.0% for creativity, 83.4% for neatness, and 76.6% for proportion. Both the teacher and students gave positive responses, indicating that the activity enhanced students’ creativity, learning motivation, environmental awareness, and understanding of the local culture of East Java.
