In English language teaching, it can be founded many students from early start until adult learners learn by themselves especially in pandemic era. Learners who learn by themselves can be called self-regulated learners. For example, in reality, it can find a certain student from a school in the city until a rural area doing online learning. Interestingly, self-regulated learning is considered to be one of the important factors that positively affect students’ success in online learning environment.
For seeing the improvement of students on self-regulated learning, it is suggested that teacher ought to give more concern to the strategic of productive students to help their less successful students by improve their performance. Consequently, it is important to know how teachers apply the strategies in implementing self-regulated learning and how teacher encourage self-regulated learning. Besides, the steps that English teacher do to encourage students’ self-regulated learning also can be describe that answer all question in research question that positively affect the students.
This study was qualitative study that the subject of this study was an English teacher who taught in Senior High School at East Surabaya. Interview and Observation were conducted to collect the data in order to answer research questions. The findings show that; first, an English teacher applied three strategies such as metacognitive strategy, motivational strategy, and behavioural strategy. Second, the English teacher also encourage the students to do self-regulated learning more effective especially on speaking skills.
All in all, teacher perception on student’s self-regulated learning on speaking skills can give benefit to the English teacher in this pandemic era. Besides, teacher perceptions about student’s self-regulated learning can affect teacher in English language teaching that more guided.
