Di era globalisasi, arus budaya asing dan pengaruh media massa berpotensi melemahkan semangat nasionalisme khususnya di kalangan generasi muda. Pembelajaran sejarah di sekolah yang cenderung konvensional dan berpusat pada guru menyebabkan keterlibatan siswa menjadi minim sehingga kesadaran kebangsaan mereka menurun. Media pembelajaran seperti film dapat menjadi strategi efektif untuk menanamkan kembali kecintaan terhadap bangsa dan membangun kesadaran nasional. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis representasi nilai-nilai nasionalisme Indonesia di tiga zaman dalam film They Call Me Babu melalui pengalaman tokoh Alima yang hidup pada tiga zaman: penjajahan Belanda, pendudukan Jepang, dan kemerdekaan Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan analisis semiologi Roland Barthes dan analisis wacana visual Gillian Rose. Data diperoleh melalui studi pustaka dan dokumentasi berupa adegan-adegan film kemudian dianalisis menggunakan teknik analisis data James Spradley. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai-nilai nasionalisme yang muncul dapat dikategorikan berdasarkan zamannya. Pertama, nasionalisme embrional pada zaman penjajahan Belanda ditandai oleh kesadaran awal kebangsaan. Kedua, nasionalisme resistensial pada zaman pendudukan Jepang yang mencerminkan kesadaran perlawanan terhadap penjajahan. Ketiga, nasionalisme emansipatoris pada zaman kemerdekaan Indonesia yang menunjukkan kesadaran kemerdekaan serta tanggung jawab kebangsaan dalam mempertahankan kemerdekaan.
In the era of globalization, foreign cultural influences and mass media have the potential to weaken nationalism, especially among the younger generation. Conventional, teacher-centered history lessons in schools tend to minimize student involvement, thereby reducing their national awareness. Learning media such as films can be an effective strategy for re-instilling love for the nation and building national awareness. This study aims to analyze the representation of Indonesian nationalist values in three eras in the film They Call Me Babu through the experiences of the character Alima, who lived through three eras: Dutch colonialism, Japanese occupation, and Indonesian independence. This study uses a qualitative method with Roland Barthes' semiological analysis approach and Gillian Rose's visual discourse analysis. Data was obtained through literature study and documentation in the form of film scenes, then analyzed using James Spradley's data analysis technique. The results show that the nationalist values that emerge can be categorized based on the era. First, embryonic nationalism during the Dutch colonial era was marked by an early awareness of nationality. Second, resistential nationalism during the Japanese occupation reflected an awareness of resistance to colonialism. Third, emancipatory nationalism during the era of Indonesian independence demonstrated an awareness of independence and national responsibility in maintaining independence.
