Musik indie berasal dari kata independent yang maknanya berdiri sendiri, bebas, lepas, tidak terkait dengan suatu label musik, pemusik indie bebas menciptakan musik dengan menyalurkan ide-ide kreatif mereka tanpa terikat komersialisme. Dengan seiring perkembangan zaman yang semakin modern tidak sedikit band indie yang memiliki label musik, hal tersebut dilakukan agar karya dari band-band indie dapat dikenal oleh masyarakat secara luas. Band indie di Kota Kediri sangat beragam dan memiliki bermacam-macam genre, namun yang bekembang dan eksis saat ini adalah band-band indie yang bergenre pop karena musiknya yang easy listening membuat band indie tersebut dapat di kenal oleh masyarakat di Kota Kediri yaitu grup band indie Friend Over You. Pokok permasalahan tersebut dapat dijabarkan ke dalam rumusan masalah penelitian sebagai berikut: Bagaimana latar belakang terbentuknya grup band Friend Over You di Kota Kediri? Bagaimana perkembangan grup band Friend Over You di Kota Kediri? Bagaimana upaya grup band Friend Over You dalam mempertahankan keberadaannya di masyarakat? Penelitian ini mengacu pada sebuah eksistensi grup band Friend Over You di Kota Kediri. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif, dimana tujuan pendekatan yang bertujuan untuk medeskriptifkan, mencatat, dan menganalisis dengan gejala fenomena yang diteliti untuk menghasilkan data-data yang aktual dan akurat yang benar-benar ilmiah. Instrumen subyek yang diambil berdasarkan wawancara dan pengamatan dalam penelitian ini adalah para personil grup band Friend Over You, beberapa komunitas penyelenggara event musik indie di Kota Kediri, dan para penikmat musik grup band indie Friend Over You yang berada di Kota Kediri. Latar belakang terbentukya grup band Friend Over You ini terjadi pada tanggal 13 Desember 2013 karena adanya sebuah project musik yang ber-genre rock yang dibentuk oleh Aditia Achild dan Riko yang telah menciptakan karya-karya lagu instrumental, serta bergabung nya Jojo dan Adam. Awal terbentuknya Friend Over You mengusung genre rock. Pada perkembangannya grup band Friend Over You terus berkarya dengan mengikuti perkembangan zaman yang akhirnya Friend Over You memilih untuk mengusung genre pop dalam mempertahankan eksistensinya di masyarakat Kota Kediri. Dengan karya yang telah mereka ciptakan mulai saat pada genre rock hingga berpindah ke genre pop membawa eksistensi grup band indie Friend Over You semakin berkembang. Upaya Friend Over You dalam mempertahankan eksisensinya diantaranya dengan memiliki label digital distribusi musik yaitu Athalla Records dan merilis lagu nya secara digital pada aplikasi musik seperti Joox, Spotify, Itunes, dan Apple Music. Grup band Friend Over You juga sering diundang pada event-event besar, diantaranya Tour Promo Film Yowis Ben 2 di beberapa Kota di Jawa Timur dan Pharmfest 2020 di Kota Kediri sebagai grup band pembuka atau Opening Acticity dari grup musik Yowis Ben serta youtuber terkenal seperti Angga Candra dan Alif Rizky.

Indie music comes from the word Independent which means standing on its own, free, untied and unettached with music labels, indie musicians are free to create music by channeling their creative ideas without being tied to commercialism. As we arrive in the modern age, there is a few indie bands who have music label, it is done so that these bands can be known by the general public. In Kediri, indie bands widely varies and have multiple genres, but the one that currently grow and exist are bands with pop genre due to it’s easy listening music which makes it easier to be recognized by the people of Kediri. That band is Friend Over You. The main argument can be explained through the following research question. What is the background of the formation of the Friend Over You band in Kediri? How is the development of the Friend Over You band in Kediri? How are the efforts Friend Over You done  in keeping their existence in the society?. This research follows the existence of a band group named Friend Over You in Kediri. This research  applies descriptive-qualitative approach, where has the purpose to describe, to record, and to analyze which depends on the research phenomenon to produce such actual and accurate scientific data. The subject that obtained from the interview and the observation in this research are the personeel of band group Friend Over You, several communities of the indie music event in Kediri, and the indie band group Friend Over You listener in Kediri area. The establishment of the band group Friend Over You formed in December 13, 2013 because of the rock music project which initiated by Aditia Achild and Riko who has created many instrumental masterpieces, along with Jojo and Adam who also joined in this project. In its development, Friend Over You band kept working by following the development of the age and Friend Over You eventually chose to bring the genre of pop in maintaning its existence within the people of Kediri. With the masterpieces that they have already created from the rock genre to pop genre, they brought the existence of indie band group Friend Over You more well-developed. The effort of Friend Over You in maintaning its existence, such as by forming a digital music distribution label which so called as Athalla Records, as well as by releasing their songs digitally on music application platforms like Joox, Soptify, Itunes, and Apple Music. The band group Friend Over You also has been frequently invited to big events, such as Film Yowis Ben 2 Promo Tour in several cities in East Java and Pharmfest 2020 in Kediri as the opening band or commonly calles as Opening Activity from Yowis Ben group music and famous youtubers Angga Candra and Alif Rizky.
