Salah satu keterampilan produktif yang tidak dapat dipisahkan dalam kelompok sastra global adalah menulis. Menulis adalah salah satu kemampuan yang harus dikuasai oleh siswa yang mengambil jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris. Untuk membuat teks yang baik, siswa harus memahami aspek dan karakteristik dalam menulis. Selain itu, ada beberapa dasar yang harus dipertimbangkan dalam menyusun tulisan yang baik. Komponen dasar dalam penulisan terdiri dari konten, organisasi, kosa kata, penggunaan bahasa dan mekanika. Namun, peneliti hanya berfokus dalam hal konten dan organisasi karena aspek ini berkontribusi besar dalam aspek penulisan. Konten sendiri ditandai dengan topik yang menunjukkan perkembangan faktual dari ide-ide utama sedangkan organisasi adalah struktur teks.

Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menerapkan penelitian kualitatif dasar untuk mendapatkan hasil. Data diambil dari tulisan deskriptif teks siswa di Jurusan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Negeri Surabaya. Subjek penelitian ini telah ditetapkan. Peneliti menganalisis 7 siswa hanya sebagai subjek. Kriteria pertama adalah tentang teks tulisan; esai mereka harus dalam teks penulisan deskriptif. Kriteria kedua adalah bahwa peneliti hanya berfokus pada siswa berprestasi tinggi, yang memiliki> 3,50 Indeks Prestasi Kumulatif (IPK), dan membatasi subjek berdasarkan hasil mereka di kelas sebelumnya, paragraph writing. Hanya siswa yang memiliki nilai A atau A- yang diambil sebagai subjek. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan teks tulisan sebagai data penelitian. Peneliti menganalisis 2 komponen teks deskriptif yang ditulis oleh siswa yang berfokus pada konten dan organisasi. Untuk mengukur kemampuan siswa dalam menulis, peneliti menggunakan rubrik penulisan deskriptif yang diadopsi dari Brown (2004). Berdasarkan penelitian, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa ada 4 siswa yang dikategorikan dalam tingkat sangat baik dan 3 siswa dalam tingkat baik dalam hal konten. Sementara, dari segi organisasi ada 3 siswa yang diklasifikasikan dalam level sangat baik dan 4 siswa di tingkat baik. Dari hasil tersebut, peneliti menemukan bahwa siswa dengan prestasi tinggi dapat menyusun penulisan deskriptif dalam kategori sangat baik dan baik.

One of productive skills which cannot be separated in global group of literature is writing. Writing is one of ability that should be mastered by students who major in English Education. In order to create a good text, the students have to understand the aspects and characteristics of writing. Furthermore, there are some foundations that have to be considered in composing a good writing. Basic components in writing consist of content, organization, vocabulary, language use and mechanics. Yet, the researcher mainly concentrated in the terms of content and organization because this aspect contributes big percentage in writing aspects.  The content underlines with the topics that will indicate the factual development of the main ideas while the organization of the text is the outlines of the text.

In this study, the researcher applied basic qualitative research in order to get the result. The data was taken from the students’ descriptive writing texts in English Department of State University of Surabaya. The subjects of this study had been set. The researcher analyzed 7 students only as the subject. The first criterion is about the writing text; their essays had to be in descriptive writing text. The second criterion is that the researcher only focused on high achiever students, which have > 3.50 Grade Point Average (GPA), and limits the subject based on their result in their previous writing class, paragraph writing. Only the students who have A or A- score that were taken as the subject.

 In this research, the researcher used the writing text as the data of the study. The researcher analyzed 2 components of descriptive text written by students which mainly focused on content and organization. To measure the students’ skill on writing, the researcher used adopted descriptive writing rubric from Brown (2004). Based on the study, the researcher concluded that there were 4 students who categorized in excellent level and 3 students in good level in terms of content. While, in terms of organization there were 3 students who are classified in excellent level and 4 students in good level. From those results, the researcher found that high achievers students can compose the descriptive writing which are considered as excellent and good level.
