The role of parents, especially a father, often goes
unnoticed by others, which can lead to difficulties in openly expressing love
and emotions to their children. This research has found that a
father’s role can be reflected through attitudes and behaviors displayed as
forms of attention and affection towards their child.
The purpose of this research is to describe the
representation of a father's role or image through attitudes and behaviors when
establishing a relationship with their child in the short film We by Aco
Tenriyagelli.
This research uses Roland Barthes’ Semiotics theory with
John Fiske’s semiotic approach as the basis for analysis. The data source used
in this research is the transcript of the short film We by Aco
Tenriyagelli. The primary data collection is conducted through the observation
technique, specifically by capturing scenes from the film as the data to be
examined. The data analysis is carried out using descriptive analysis
techniques.
The results of this research reveal the presence of
semions in the short film We by Aco Tenriyagelli, as well as describe
the denotative meaning, connotative meaning, and the myth of a father's role in
the film. It also represents how the role or image of the father is portrayed
in the film through the relationship built between a father and a child. This
research is expected to serve as a reference source for readers interested in
this topic.
Key words: Roland Barthes Semiotics, representation, father’s role.
