Guided Inquiry Based Science Learning to Improve Junior High School Students Critical Thinking Skills
Critical thinking skills are one of the important competencies that students need to have in 21st century science learning, but these skills are still relatively low, especially in the aspects of formulating problems, analyzing data, and drawing conclusions. Therefore, an effective learning model is needed to train these skills, one of which is guided inquiry. The purpose of this study is to describe the improvement of critical thinking skills of junior high school students after the implementation of guided inquiry-based science learning, the implementation of learning, and student responses after the implementation of guided inquiry-based science learning. The material used is the Human Respiratory System. The type of research used is pre-experimental with a one group pretest-posttest design involving one class VIII-I of SMP Negeri 3 Surabaya. Data collection techniques used include tests, observations, and questionnaires with instruments in the form of pretest and posttest questions, observation sheets for learning implementation, and student response questionnaires. The results showed that students' critical thinking skills improved, with an N-gain of 0.72, which is considered high. Learning implementation was in the very good category, and students responded positively to the learning with a percentage of 89.98%. Thus, it can be concluded that guided inquiry based science learning is effective in improving junior high school students critical thinking skills.
