Difficulty in understanding vocabulary is one of the
reasons for the decline in interest and motivation of class XII students at SMK
Yapalis Krian in learning Mandarin. Competent educators are required to be able
to revive students interest and motivation to learn through interesting
learning activities, for example, by using learning media. With this,
researchers used paired card media in learning Chinese vocabulary comprehension
to train their independence and motivate them to learn Chinese vocabulary. The
purpose of the study was to describe the application of paired card media, the
effect of using paired card media, and the response of class XII students of
SMK Yapalis Krian in the 2022/2023 academic year to the use of paired card media
in learning Chinese vocabulary comprehension.
This research was experimental with a true experimental
pre-test and post-test group design involving a control class and an
experimental class. The data generated in the form of numbers was calculated
using statistical formulas and presented using quantitative descriptive
methods.
The results showed that the
activity of the experimental class educators obtained a "very good"
category according to Likert scale criteria with a value of 92,70% at the first meeting, 94,79% at the
second meeting, and 96,87% at the third meeting. Then, in the activity of the
students, they also obtained a value in the "very good" category,
with a value of 77,5% at the first meeting, 87.5% at the second meeting, and
95% at the third meeting. The average pre-test value of students before being
given the treatment of using paired card media was 34,27, and the average
post-test value of students after being given the treatment of using paired
card media increased to 83,3. Then we analyzed and obtained a t-test of 9,55
and a
of 68 and
tested at a significant t-table at the 5% level, or 0,05, so that t0
=
, meaning that there is a significant positive effect
on the use of paired card media on learning Chinese vocabulary comprehension.
Also, the students' responses to the use of paired card media also obtained a
positive response with a "very good" category because the percentage
value of the response questionnaire was in the range of 81–100%. Thus, it was
concluded that the use of paired card media is effective in learning Chinese
vocabulary and has already proven to foster students' interest and motivation
in learning Chinese.
