THE APPLICATION OF BIGBOOK MEDIA FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF MONTESORI THEORY TOWARDS INTEREST IN BEGINNING READING IN GRADE 2 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penerapan media Big Book dalam perspektif teori Montessori dalam meningkatkan minat membaca permulaan siswa kelas II sekolah dasar, mengidentifikasi kendala yang dihadapi, serta menjelaskan dampak yang ditimbulkan dari penggunaannya. Latar belakang penelitian ini berangkat dari rendahnya minat baca siswa sekolah dasar pada tahap awal literasi, sehingga diperlukan media pembelajaran yang inovatif dan sesuai dengan tahap perkembangan anak. Pendekatan Montessori yang menekankan kemandirian, pengalaman langsung, serta kebebasan bereksplorasi diintegrasikan dengan penggunaan Big Book sebagai media visual interaktif.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan media Big Book sejalan dengan prinsip Montessori. Siswa berpartisipasi aktif dalam kegiatan membaca bersama, diskusi cerita, dan interpretasi gambar, serta menunjukkan peningkatan antusiasme, kepercayaan diri, dan pemahaman terhadap bacaan. Secara keseluruhan, integrasi media Big Book dengan pendekatan Montessori terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan minat membaca permulaan siswa.
This study aims to describe the implementation of Big Book media from the Montessori theory perspective in enhancing early reading interest among second- grade elementary students, to identify the obstacles faced, and to explain the resulting impacts. The research was motivated by the low reading interest of early grade students, which requires innovative and developmentally appropriate learning media. The Montessori approach, emphasizing independence, direct experience, and freedom of exploration, was integrated with the Big Book as a visual interactive .
The results indicate that the implementation of Big Book media aligns with Montessori principles. Students actively participated in shared reading, story discussions, and picture interpretation, showing increased enthusiasm, confidence, and understanding of texts. Although challenges arose regarding classroom space and media size, these were resolved through proper environmental organization consistent with Montessori values. In conclusion, integrating Big Book media with the Montessori approach significantly enhances early reading interest.
