Styrofoam
is currently widely used for food packaging. Styrofoam which used as food packaging,
consumers must also pay attention to its security, because the function of food
packaging is for health, preservation and ease. Styrofoam contains Styrene
which is a chemical that has carcinogenic properties that can trigger the
development of cancer cells in the body. Therefore it is necessary to pay
attention to the use of styrofoam food packaging correctly, by not using it to
wrap hot and fatty foods and pay attention to the logo and recycling code on
styrofoam packaging. In fact, there are still many street vendors who sells hot and fatty food
wrapped in styrofoam packaging.
This
study aims to analyze the legal awareness of street vendors in the use of
styrofoam without logos and recycling codes, and to describe the factors that
affects street vendor legal awareness in the use of styrofoam without logos and
recycling codes in food packaging in Sentra Dharmahusada, Kelurahan Mojo,
Gubeng District, Surabaya City. This research is a juridical
sociologic
research which is a
legal research to find out how far a regulation or legislation can be said to
have been effective. Data sources were obtained from primary and secondary data
with qualitative analysis methods.
The results showed the level
of legal awareness of street vendors in the use of styrofoam without logos and
recycling codes are low .
This can be proven by indicators; the low level of legal knowledge, the low
level of legal understanding, the disagreement of legal attitudes and the
incompatibility of the legal behavior patterns of street vendors. The factors
that affect the level of legal awareness of street vendors in Sentra PKL
Dharmahusada Surabaya relate d
to the use of styrofoam without logos and recycling codes on food packaging,
especially street vendors who sell hot and fatty foods wrapped in styrofoam
packaging, are: education al
level of street
vendors or SV, age, and the
access to information. Therefore, guidance and supervision is needed by the
government, especially the Office of Cooperatives and UMKM on the packaging of
styrofoam foods that have no logo and recycling code that can endanger human
health, and National Agency of Drug and Food Controlkema must also be active in
monitoring and inspecting food products using styrofoam food packaging, as well
as active in providing counseling to every street vendor s on dangerous and safe food
packaging and the concern of street vendors in increasing legal awareness
through autonomy in accessing information.
