This study was aimed to obtain the information regarding to the aspects of students’ Intercultural Awareness (ICA) perceived through a media that was very rich of culture, film, from Content Cultural Category (CCC) ans Politeness in Socio-pragmatics perspectives in the EFL classroom . This was considered to be necessary as students tended to lack of awareness toward other cultures and understanding the meanings of the utterances spoken by the interlocutors. This was because students no longer needed to master cultural content knowledge. They only focused on lesson materials like grammar and types of the text. Books or texts were however, insufficient to fulfill the input in aspects of ICA. By film, students were supposed to be aware of the globalization, and worldwide contacts between countries and individuals raised the needs to gain intercultural awareness.

As the study was a case study, it was a qualitative study. And the data of this study were taken from documentations which consisted of students’ journal writing with guided questions as the essay writing instructions and intended meanings to the dialog scripts uttered by the characters in the film. There were thirty-six participants which consisted of twenty-four female and twelve male students. From the findings, There were twenty-one aspects of ICA students perceived from the film. Yet, ‘respect to others’ became the only aspect of ICA that majoring the whole matters to aware other cultures. If the aspect manifested, there would not be the negative things happened. Moreover, it could increase other positive things achieved. Meanwhile, There were seven aspects of ICA as mentioned above. The participants were categorized to understand the meaning of the sentences to politeness uttered by the characters in the film even though they did not know socio-pragmatics and whether their responses included in the six maxims or not. The main key of the all aspects was ‘respect for other.’ The aspects of ICA like ‘generous, appraisal, humble, polite, and sympathy’ were the positive politeness. While ‘arrogant and disrespectful’ were the negative politeness. The above two findings led to ‘respect to others.’

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh informasi mengenai aspek-aspek Kesadaran Antar Budaya siswa (ICA) yang dirasakan melalui media yang sangat kaya akan budaya, yakni film, dari Content Cultural Category (CCC) dan Politeness dalam perspektif sosio-pragmatik di Kelas EFL. Hal ini dianggap perlu karena siswa cenderung kurang kesadaran terhadap budaya lain dan memahami makna ucapan yang diucapkan oleh lawan bicara. Penyebab lainnya karena siswa merasa tidak perlu lagi menguasai pengetahuan akan konten budaya. Mereka hanya fokus pada bahan pelajaran seperti tata bahasa dan jenis teks. Namun, buku atau teks tidak cukup untuk memenuhi input dalam aspek ICA. Melalui film, siswa diharapkan untuk menyadari globalisasi, dan kontak di seluruh dunia antara negara dan individu dalam meningkatkan kebutuhan untuk mendapatkan kesadaran antar budaya.

            Karena penelitian ini adalah studi kasus, maka penelitian ini adalah kualitatif. Dan data penelitian ini diambil dari dokumentasi yang terdiri dari penulisan jurnal siswa dengan pertanyaan terbimbing sebagai instruksi penulisan esai dan makna yang dimaksudkan untuk naskah dialog yang diucapkan oleh karakter dalam film. Ada tiga puluh enam peserta yang terdiri dari dua puluh empat perempuan dan dua belas siswa laki-laki. Dari temuan, Ada dua puluh satu aspek ICA yang dirasakan siswa dari film tersebut. Namun, 'menghormati orang lain' menjadi satu-satunya aspek ICA yang mengutamakan seluruh hal untuk menyadari budaya lain. Jika aspek tersebut terwujud, tidak akan ada hal-hal negatif terjadi. Apalagi bisa meningkatkan hal positif lain yang diraih. Sementara itu, ada tujuh aspek ICA seperti yang disebutkan di atas. Para peserta dikategorikan untuk memahami arti kalimat terhadap kesopanan yang diucapkan oleh karakter dalam film meskipun mereka tidak tahu sosial-pragmatik dan apakah tanggapan mereka termasuk dalam enam prinsip atau tidak. Kunci utama dari semua aspek adalah 'menghormati yang lain.' Aspek ICA seperti 'dermawan, pujian, rendah hati, sopan, dan simpati' adalah kesopanan positif. Sementara 'sombong dan tidak sopan' adalah kesopanan negatif. Dua temuan di atas menyebabkan munculnya aspek 'menghormati orang lain.'
