Pembelajaran berbasis masalah yang melibatkan peserta didik untuk menyelesaikan suatu masalah autentik perlu diterapkan untuk mengetahui perannya dalam melatihkan keterampilan menyelesaikan masalah peserta didik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) mendeskripsikan keterlaksanaan pembelajaran berbasis masalah, (2) mendeskripsikan ketuntasan kemampuan menyelesaikan masalah peserta didik kelas yang diajarkan model pembelajaran berbasis masalah, dan (3) mendeskripsikan respons peserta didik terhadap pembelajaran berbasis masalah. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian pre-experimen dengan menggunakan rancangan one-group pretest-posttest design. Penelitian dilaksanakan mulai Mei hingga Agustus 2019 di Jurusan Biologi UNESA dan MAN Sidoarjo. Instrumen penelitian meliputi soal tes, lembar pengamatan keterlaksanaan pembelajaran dan lembar angket respons. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan metode tes, pengamatan dan angket. Data dianalisis berdasarkan keterlaksanaan pembelajaran, ketuntasan kemampuan menyelesaikan masalah dan respons peserta didik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran berbasis masalah terlaksana dengan sangat baik (persentase skor sebesar 97,5%). Peserta didik yang diajarkan pembelajaran berbasis masalah dapat mencapai ketuntasan kemampuan menyelesaikan masalah dengan persentase sebesar 80% peserta didik yang tuntas. Peserta didik memberikan respons positif terhadap pembelajaran berbasis masalah (persentase sebesar 86%).

Problem based learning that involve student to solve authentic problem need to be applied for understanding its role in training student’s problem solving ability. This research aimed to (1) describe the implementation of problem based learning, (2) describe mastery of student’s problem solving ability who are taught problem based learning and (3) describe student’s responses about problem based learning. This research was a pre-experimental using one-group pretest-posttest design. The activities was held on May to August, 2019 in Biology Department Unesa and MAN Sidoarjo. Research instruments were implementation sheet, question assessment sheet and student response sheet. Data collection techniques were observation, test and questionnaire methods. The data was analyzed based on learning implementation, the mastery of student’s problem solving ability, and student responses. The results showed that problem based learning carried out very good (in the percentage 97.5%). The student’s mastery level of problem solving ability increased with a percentage of 80% after applying problem based learning. Students was positively response to the problem based learning (in the percentage of 86%).
