PEMBELAJARAN EKSPRESI VOKAL MELALUI PENGUASAAN REGISTER BERBASIS SELF ASSESSMENT DI MAYOR MINOR MUSIC COURSE MALANG
LEARNING VOCAL EXPRESSION THROUGH REGISTER MASTERY BASED ON SELF ASSESSMENT IN MAYOR MINOR MUSIC COURSE MALANG

This study aims to (1) describe the learning process of vocal expression through register mastery which takes place at the Mayor Minor Music Course Malang, and (2) examine the effectiveness of the method used in the learning, namely Self Assessment.
This study uses qualitative and quantitative method. A qualitative method is used to describe the learning process of vocal expression through interviews with resource persons, data collection, and observation. Meanwhile, a quantitative method is needed to describe the effectiveness of the Self Assessment method. The research was conducted over a period of six months to observe, collect data, follow the learning process, and write this thesis.
In line with the objectives (1), the results of the study show that the learning process for vocal expression was preceded by learning registers, namely the chest register, the spoken register, the diaphragm voice, the nasal register, and the head register. For learning vocal expression, several emotions are classified, namely; (1) sad, spoiled, which gives rise to a nasal, wheezing, and hoarse voice, resulting from the Nasal Voice, and vocal fry; (2) angry, excited, irritated, which gives rise to a strong and loud voice, resulting from the Diaphragm Voice; (3) tense, restless, which tends to produce a low voice/tone, resulting from the Chest Voice; and (4) happy, romantic, affectionate, which gives rise to a clear, smooth, and melodious voice, the result of the Head Voice. From the Wilcoxon Effectiveness test, it was found that the calculated Z value was smaller than -Z table (-2.032 < -1.960), and the p-value was smaller than (0.042 < 0.050), so the decision was taken to reject H0 which means there is a difference in the mean significant mean between pre and post based on the results of the measured values. It can be concluded that the Self Assessment method is very effective to use, in learning vocal expression.
