Novel Orang-orang Biasa Karya Andrea Hirata memiliki daya tarik untuk diteliti dari aspek psikologi yang digambarkan oleh tokoh Aini. Berlatar belakang putri sulung dari kaum marjin, Aini memiliki impian menjadi dokter ahli. Realitas kehidupan dengan mimpinya berbenturan sehingga memunculkan perasaan rendah diri pada Aini. Mungkinkah mimpinya menjadi dokter terwujud atau hanya angan semata.

Menggunakan teori psikologi individual Adler, rumusan permasalahan pada penelitian ini difokuskan pada tiga aspek yakni inferioritas, faktor munculnya inferioritas, dan superioritas yang digambarkan melalui tokoh Aini. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui sifat-sifat inferioritas tokoh Aini beserta faktornya dan bentuk-bentuk usaha tokoh Aini dalam mencapai superioritas. Manfaat penelitian ini diharapkan menjadi referensi model penerapan teori psikologi individual Adler. Selain itu mampu motivasi pentingnya pendidikan dan meningkatkan simpati terhadap kehidupan sosial.

Penelitian dengan pendekatan psikologi sastra yang berfokus pada psikologi karya sastra. Jenis penelitian kualitatif dengan data berupa kalimat, atau paragraf baik kutipan, penggalan, atau pun paragraf utuh dari novel Orang-orang Biasa sebagai sumber data. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan kepustakaan. Teknik analisis data menggunakan analisis isi (content analysis).

Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa inferioritas yang dirasa oleh tokoh Aini terdiri atas takut-takut, keragu-raguan, malu- malu, kebutuhan yang meningkat akan dorongan  atau dukungan, ketaatan submisif, dan fantasi tentang kekecilan. Keenam perasaan inferioritas tersebut, yang paling menonjol adalah ketaatan submisif yang dirasa oleh tokoh Aini. Adapun inferioritas tersebut dipengaruhi oleh faktor kekurangan psikologi tokoh Aini yang psikomatis, dinamika keluarga tokoh Aini yang miskin dan genetik kognitif yang dungu serta faktor pengaruh masyarakat berupa cibiran. Usaha tokoh Aini dalam mencapai keberhasilan atau mimpinya lebih didominasi oleh daya juangnya untuk mengalahkan inferioritas dengan sifat-sifat kompensatori ambisius, berani, dan menantang.

Orang-Orang Biasa's Novel by Andrea Hirata has the attraction to be examined from the psychological aspects described by the character Aini. Set in the background of the eldest daughter of the marjin, Aini had a dream of becoming an expert doctor. The reality of life with his dreams collided so as to bring feelings of inferiority to Aini. Could his dream of becoming a doctor come true or just wishful thinking?

Using Adler's individual psychological theory, the formulation of the problem in this study is focused on three aspects namely inferiority, the emergence factor of inferiority, and superiority which are described through the character of Aini. The purpose of this study was to determine the inferiority characteristics of Aini's characters and their factors and the forms of Aini's efforts in achieving superiority. The benefits of this research are expected to be a reference model for the application of Adler's individual psychological theory. Besides being able to motivate the importance of education and increase sympathy for social life.

Research with a literary psychology approach that focuses on the psychology of literary works. This type of qualitative research with data in the form of sentences, or paragraphs, both excerpts, fragments, or even whole paragraphs from Orang-Orang Biasa’s novel as a source of data. Data collection techniques using literature. Data analysis techniques using content analysis (content analysis).

The results showed that the inferiority felt by Aini's characters consisted of fear, doubt, shame, an increased need for encouragement or support, submissive obedience, and fantasy about being too small. The six feelings of inferiority, the most prominent is submissive obedience felt by the character Aini. The inferiority is influenced by factors lacking the psychology of Aini's psychomatic figure, the dynamics of Aini's poor family and demented cognitive genetics and community influences in the form of scorn. Aini's efforts to achieve success or dreams are dominated by her fighting power to defeat inferiority with ambitious, brave, and challenging compensatory qualities.
