Berdasarkan survey dan data nilai siswa di SMK Dharma Bahari Surabaya, dapat dikatakan sebagaian besar siswa kelas XI TKR 1 khususnya dalam mata pelajaran produktif masih terlihat kurang tertarik terhadap materi yang diajarkan oleh gurunya. Pemilihan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD bertujuan untuk membuat siswa berinteraksi dan saling berdiskusi dalam memunculkan strategi-strategi pemecahan masalah yang efektif.

Metode penilitian yang digunakan yaitu Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) secara kolaburatif dan partisipatif dengan subjek penelitian siswa kelas XI TKR 1 SMK Dharma Bahari Surabaya tahun 2018/2019 yang berjumlah 32 siswa. Pengamatan ini bertujuan untuk memberikan informasi bagaimana tindakan yang tepat untuk meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi dan hasil belajar siswa dalam proses pembelajaran.

Hasil dari penelitian penerapan pembelajaran cooperative learning tipe STAD, dengan mengacu pada KKM sebesar 75 nilai awal hasil belajar siswa yang sebesar 56% (19 dari 34 siswa) yang tuntas dan kemampuan komunikasi siswa menunjukkan 68% (23 dari 34 siswa) yang tuntas. Pada siklus I nilai hasil belajar siswa meningkat menjadi  74% yang tuntas dan kemampuan komunikasi pada pertemuan ke-2 meningkat menjadi 71% dan pada pertemuan ke-4 menjadi 76% yang tuntas. Pada siklus ke II presentase ketuntasan hasil belajar siswa dan keterampilan komunikasi meningkat hingga  82% (28 dari 34 siswa) dengan nilai rata-rata kelas 78.

Based on surveys and data on student grades at the Dharma Bahari Vocational School in Surabaya, it can be said that the majority of students in class XI TKR 1, especially in productive subjects, still look less interested in the material taught by their teachers. The selection of STAD type cooperative learning models aims to make students interact and discuss with each other in bringing up effective problem solving strategies.

This observation aims to provide information on how appropriate actions to improve communication skills and student learning outcomes in the learning process

The results of the study of the application of cooperative learning type STAD learning, with reference to the KKM of 75 initial grades of student learning outcomes of 56% (19 of 34 students) are complete and student communication skills show 68% (23 of 34 students) are complete.
