The increasing type of plastic waste has become a difficult
problem to overcome, judging from the nature of plastic itself which is
difficult to decompose, innovation is needed to deal with the problem of
plastic waste. Therefore, the innovation of using plastic waste as a road
pavement material is considered suitable, this is because considering that road
infrastructure has a very important role for the community.
The research method used in this study is the experimental
method, namely research conducted on experimental variables using control
variables as a reference whether it is better or worse. The purpose of this
study was to determine the value of compressive strength, water absorption, and
wear resistance of the specimens added with PET plastic. One form of innovation
is by utilizing PET type plastic waste as a substitute for fine aggregate in
the manufacture of paving blocks, by adding PET plastic waste to paving blocks
and then testing for compressive strength, water absorption, and wear
resistance based on SNI 03-0691-1991. The variation of PET plastic added is 0%;
5%; 8%; 12%; 15% by weight of fine aggregate. The test is carried out when the
test object reaches the age of 7, 14, 28 days.
Based on these tests, there was
an increase and decrease in the value of compressive strength, water absorption
and wear resistance. The maximum compressive strength value occurs in sample II
variation with a compressive strength value of 32.68 MPa, the highest
absorption value occurs in sample I variation with a value of 2.447% while the
maximum wear resistance value occurs in sample IV variation of 0.018 mm/minute,
it can be said that the most optimum value occurs at the composition of 10%.
