MEDIATION OF TEACHERS WORK CULTURE ON THE INFLUENCE OF SCHOOL CLIMATE ON STUDENT ENGAGEMENT AT PONOROGO STATE HIGH SCHOOL
This research is motivated by the phenomenon of low student involvement in the learning process, which is influenced by school environment factors and teacher professionalism. A positive school climate characterized by social support, security, and good communication is believed to be able to increase students' enthusiasm for learning. In addition, the teacher's work culture, which includes discipline, openness, mutual respect, and the ability to work together, also plays a role in creating a conducive learning atmosphere and encouraging student involvement. Based on this background, this study aims to analyze the influence of school climate on student engagement with teacher work culture as a mediating variable in State High Schools in Ponorogo Regency.
This study uses a quantitative approach with the Partial Least Square (PLS-SEM) analysis method. The research population involved 215 teachers from three public high schools in Ponorogo with a sample of 140 teachers through proportional random sampling techniques. Data collection was carried out using a Likert scale questionnaire of 1–4, then analyzed using validity, reliability, and hypothesis tests through structural models with the help of the SmartPLS application.
The results of the study show that school climate has a positive and significant effect on teacher work culture and student engagement. In addition, teachers' work culture has been shown to be a significant mediating variable in the relationship between school climate and student engagement. This indicates that the better the school climate, the stronger the teacher's work culture which is ultimately able to increase student involvement in the learning process.
