The
purpose of this research is to develop a nutritional education management model
to improve health and nutritional behavior of kindergarten students in Dewi
Sartika and Griya Prestasi Surabaya.
This
research is a development research. Data collection method is by interview,
observation, and measurement. Step of research according to Borg and Gall (2003), comprise: (1) literature
study and information gathering, (2) compile a research plan, (3) develop an
initial model, (4) testing in a limited scale, (5) initial model improvement,
(6) model testing, (7) model
improvement, (8) model validation, (9) final improvement, (10) dissemination of
products.
Results of research show
that:
1.
On both kindergarten, there is a decrease
of malnutrition status and increase of
good nutrition status on kindergarten students, and there are competency
improvement of teachers in measuring nutrition status.
2.
On both kindergarten, there are
improvement of nutritional behavior in kindergarten students, and there is a
change in variety of foodstuffs consumed
by kindergarten students.
3.
On both kindergarten, there are hand
washing facilities and teachers watching over everyday.
4.
Parents of students on both kindergarten has
been able to prepare and process good food, arrange a meal schedule and
applying the rules in choosing good snack.
5.
Parents of students on both kindergarten
has been able to provide a menu with balanced nutritional pattern, get used to
washing hands well before meal, and
provided well nutritional care.
6.
Nutritional treatment in Dewi Sartika is
provide the parents with list type of lunch menu everyday, and provide cooking
class which optimize fruits and vegetables. While Griya Prestasi
is apply the rules of bringing lunch without menu restriction as long the lunch
is healthy. Joint dining activities are managed by parents with balanced
nutrition menu.
7.
This nutritional education management
model can improve principal’s managerial ability, teachers competency in the
field of nutrition and health, optimization in facilities and costs,
synchronization of rules in school and home, nutritional behavior and change of
attitude, behavior and skills of kindergarten students in nutrition and health.
Novelty
of this model is to integrate education and health, optimization of available
resources to reach changes of nutritional behavior and health in kindergarten
students. Product of this research is flow of nutritional education management
model and three pocket books.
Nutritional education
management model in Dewi Sartika and Griya Prestasi is expected to apply in
bigger scope so it can help and prevent child nutrition problems from happening
and help build a good diet to prevent NCD (Not Contagious Disease) in the future.
