Abstract
The phenomenon of the lean season in Bulujowo Village is
influenced by strong winds that bring high waves and occur in late December to
mid-March based on initial surveys and daily weather reports, the phenomenon
results in losses for small fishermen. The purpose of the study was to
determine the survival strategy of small fishing communities during the famine.
Research Methods, using Quantitative Descriptive
Percentage method with Survey Interview method. The sample in this study
amounted to 90 people. Data collection techniques using questionnaire
techniques and direct observation. Data analysis techniques using percentage
tables and descriptions of results.
The results showed that the characteristics of the
fishing community of Bulujowo Village based on the most age were 36-45 years
with a low level of education, namely elementary school graduates / equivalent
as many as 49 people, with income in the normal season around Rp. 1,200,000 to
Rp. 2,000,000 / month. And in the famine season which experienced a decrease in
income to reach Rp.6oo,ooo / month. Bulujowo villagers carry out survival
strategies when the famine arrives by utilizing their side jobs, the majority
of which are farm laborers, market traders and the role of family members, in addition
to these strategies they reduce monthly expenses. If the two strategies are not
enough they will make loans to banks or neighbors.
