Abstract
The population that tends to increase every year causes high demand residential
land. Slums area in
Ngagelrejo Sub-District, Wonokromo District, Surabaya City is a settlement
located on the banks of the Jagir River. In line with Jamaludin’s
opinion (2015:315) that slums area are usually found on vacant land, such as in green
belt along riverbanks, railroad tracks, parks, or in below of fly over. Slum environment with all its problems,
both directly or indirectly, will affect the comfort of living people who are in it. This study aims to determine the
physical and environmental conditions of the community and public perceptions
of the comfort living.
This research uses a quantitative descriptive approach. The population used
in this research is the whole
family who lives in slum area which is 180 families. The sampling technique
uses the Slovin formula with a percentage of error accuracy allowance of 10% so
that a sample of 64 families
is obtained. Data collection techniques such as questionnaires, observation,
and documentation. Data analysis uses primary data by collecting similar variables then presented.
The results of direct observations in the field show that the height of the
building is mostly has a
height between 3.5-7 meters. Building area in general <7.2 m2 per person. Physical condition buildings are mostly semi-permanent buildings.
Drainage conditions in general
using river channels, gutters/ditches. Sewer disposal entirely using a tankseptic.
Distribution of clean water entirely uses water from the PDAM. Most power lines
using a channel with a voltage of 450 Volt. The waste management systems almost entirely dispose
of garbage by dumping it into river/empty land. Through 18 comfort indicators, it can it is known that
as many as 34 research respondents or around 53% thought it was rather comfortable living in the slums area
of Ngagelrejo Sub-District,
Wonokromo District, Surabaya City.
