Novel merupakan jendela jiwa yang mengangkat banyak fenomena yang berkaitan dengan psikologi. Salah satu novel terbaru yang mengangkat tentang kejiwaan adalah novel Chemistry karya Akhmad Sekhu. Novel ini dipilih karena banyak mengandung unsur skizofrenia yang dialami tokoh utama.

Penelitian ini mengkaji tokoh utama dalam novel yang mengalami psikologi abnormal yaitu skizofrenia. Ada tiga permasalahan yang akan dibahas pada penelitian ini. Permasalahan tersebut antara lain latar belakang skizofrenia dan  simtom skizofrenia yang dialami tokoh utama sebelum dan pasca perawatan.

Penelitian berjenis kualitatif ini menggunakan pendekatan psikologi sastra yang berfokus pada karya sastra yaitu novel. Data berupa tingkah laku, pikiran, narasi, dan dialog yang berwujud paparan bahasa berupa kalimat-kalimat yang berkaitan dengan skizofrenia akan dikutip dari sumber data yaitu novel Chemistry. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik kepustakaan sedangkan teknik analisis data menggunakan analisi isi.

Setelah dianalisis didapatkan hasil bahwa latar belakang tokoh utama mengalami skizofrenia adalah kerentanan terhadap stres dan skizofrenia semakin berkembang dikarenakan peristiwa traumatik insiden ladang tebu. Simtom yang dialami tokoh utama sebelum perawatan adalah simtom positif dan simtom disorganisasi. Namun setelah dilakukan perawatan di Rumah Sakit Jiwa Padamari, skizofrenia tokoh utama berkurang dengan tidak ditemukannya simtom disorganisasi.

The novel is a window to the soul that raises many phenomena related to psychology. One of the newest novels that raises psychology is the novel Chemistry by Akhmad Sekhu. This novel was chosen because it contains many schizophrenia elements experienced by the main character.

This study examines the main character in a novel who experiences an abnormal psychology, schizophrenia. There are three issues that will be discussed in this study. These problems include the background of schizophrenia and schizophrenia symptoms experienced by the main character before and after treatment. 

This qualitative research uses a psychological psychology approach that focuses on literary works, namely novels. Data in the form of behavior, thoughts, narration, and dialogue in the form of language exposure in the form of sentences related to schizophrenia will be quoted from the data source, namely Chemistry novel. Data collection techniques using library techniques while data analysis techniques use content analysis.

After analyzing it is obtained that the background of the main character experiencing schizophrenia is susceptibility to stress and schizophrenia is growing due to the traumatic events of the sugar cane incident. The symptoms that the main character experienced before treatment were positive symptoms and disorganized symptoms. But after treatment at Padamari Mental Hospital, schizophrenia of the main character diminished with the absence of disorganization symptoms.
