This study aimed to develop and examine the feasibility and effectiveness of SmartRepro interactive multimedia based on Problem Based Learning (PBL) in improving students’ critical thinking skills and Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) on the topic of the human reproductive system for Grade IX junior high school students. This research employed a research and development (R&D) approach conducted through the DDDE model (Decide, Design, Develop, and Evaluate). The feasibility of the SmartRepro interactive multimedia was assessed through validation by media experts, subject matter experts, and instructional design experts using feasibility assessment questionnaires.
The validation results indicated that the SmartRepro interactive multimedia obtained an average feasibility score of 97.3%, which falls into the very feasible category. This result demonstrates that SmartRepro meets the standards of instructional media feasibility in terms of content quality, visual appearance, and instructional design. Furthermore, the effectiveness test was conducted using a quasi-experimental design involving an experimental class and a control class. Data analysis was performed using the normality test, homogeneity test, and Independent Samples t-test.
The results showed that there were no significant differences in critical thinking skills and Self-Regulated Learning between the control and experimental classes at the pretest stage. However, at the posttest stage, significant differences were found, in which students in the experimental class demonstrated higher critical thinking skills and Self-Regulated Learning than those in the control class. These findings indicate that the use of SmartRepro interactive multimedia based on Problem Based Learning is effective in improving students’ critical thinking skills and learning independence. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that SmartRepro interactive multimedia based on Problem Based Learning is feasible and effective as a science learning medium to enhance critical thinking skills and Self-Regulated Learning of Grade IX junior high school students.
