Penelitian ini mengkaji perbedaan tipe kepribadian pada tokoh Yasmin dan Maya dalam novel Maya karya Ayu Utami. Tokoh Yasmin merupakan bentuk ekstraversi dari novel Maya. Kemunculan Yasmin yang sering bersamaan dengan sikap Yasmin yang lebih banyak berhadapan dengan dunia di luar dirinya. Tokoh Yasmin memiliki peran memperlihatkan hal-hal yang berada di luar dirinya dan yang ada di luar dari lingkungan padepokan Suhubudi.    Sedangkan Tokoh Maya merupakan bentuk dari sikap introversi pada novel Maya. Tokoh Maya berperan dalam memusatkan pada kondisi di dalam dirinya dan lingkungannya saja. Pusatnya diri tokoh Maya dan lingkungan pada novel Maya adalah di padepokan Suhubudi. Tokoh Maya yang lebih tertutup pada dunia luar, bertugas memperlihatkan hal-hal di dalam lingkungan yang tidak akan mampu dilakukan oleh tokoh Yasmin.

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan objektif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik baca catat dan riset kepustakaan, yaitu dengan membaca teks atau literatur yang menjadi sumber penelitian dan yang berkaitan dengan data penelitian. Teknik catat dilakukan dengan memberikan tanda berupa tulisan atau garis pada teks novel Maya karya Ayu Utami.

Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan, 1. tipe kepribadian ekstraversi pada tokoh Yasmin adalah tipe ekstraversi pikiran, tipe ekstraversi perasaan, tipe ekstraversi pengindraan, dan tipe ekstraversi intuisi, 2. tipe kepribadian ekstraversi pada tokoh Maya adalah tipe ekstraversi pikiran, ekstraversi perasaan, dan tipe ekstraversi pengindraan, 3. tipe kepribadian introversi pada tokoh Yasmin adalah tipe introversi pikiran, tipe kepribadian introversi perasaan, dan tipe introversi pengindraan, 4. Tipe kepribadian introversi pada tokoh Maya adalah tipe introversi pikiran, tipe kepribadian introversi perasaan, tipe introversi pengindraan, dan tipe introversi intuisi, 5. tokoh Yasmin dan Maya memiliki tujuh tipe kepribadian yang menunjukkan bahwa antara tipe ekstraversi dan introversi mereka tidak seimbang. Ketidakseimbangan tersebut  menunjukkan bahwa tokoh Yasmin dan Maya belum dapat mencapai individuasi atau realisasi diri. 

This study examines the differences in personality types in Yasmin and Maya figures in Ayu Utamis Maya novel. Yasmins figure is an extraversion form of the Maya novel. Yasmins appearance often coincides with Yasmins attitude, which deals more with the world outside herself. Yasmin figures have the role of showing things that are outside of themselves and those outside the environment of the hermitage of Suhubudi. While Tokoh Maya is a form of introversion in the Mayan novel. Maya characters play a role in focusing on conditions in themselves and their environment. The center of Maya and the environment themselves in the Maya novel is in the hermitage of Suhubudi. The Maya figure who is more closed to the outside world is tasked with showing things in the environment that Yasmins character will not be able to do.

This research is a qualitative research with an objective approach. The data collection technique used in this study is the technique of reading and library research, namely by reading the text or literature that is the source of research and related to research data. The recording technique is done by giving a sign in the form of writing or lines in the text of the Maya novel by Ayu Utami.

The results of this study indicate, 1. the extraversion personality type of Yasmins character is the type of extraversion mind, type of extraversion feeling, type of extraversion  sensation, and type of extraversion  intuition, 2. extraversion type on Maya is extraversion  mind, extraversion  feeling, and type of extraversion  sensation, 3. personality type introversion on character Yasmin is the type of introversion mind, introverted personality type feeling, and type of introversion, 4. Type of personality introversion on Maya is type introversion mind, introverted personality type feeling, type of introversion, and type of intuition introversion, 5. Yasmin and Maya figures have seven personality types which show that between extraversion and introversion types are not balanced. This imbalance shows that Yasmin and Maya figures have not been able to achieve individuation or self-realization.
