Soccer is one of the most famous sports. It is also a favorite topic in physical education class. However, physical education does not only emphasize on the sport skill, but also moral education. It is important to develop students’ character which are expected to solve the current problems such as lack of discipline, disobedience to rules, and unable to respect others. Furthermore, the implementation of moral education through physical education activity can shape the character of the students so that they could become a role model and a leader of this nation in the future.
This study aims to determine the effectiveness of reward and punishment in shaping the character of students. This study used descriptive research method. The data were gathered by observing the students’ behavior after the implementation of reward and punishment. The treatments were implemented 4 times. The population in this research is class X Senior High School 16 Surabaya. There were 36 students as control groups and 36 students as experimental group. The result shows that reward and punishment are effective to shape the character of the students. This can be evidenced by an increase of 61.11% in disciplinary aspect, the sportive aspect increased by 19.44%, in the daring aspect to convey ideas increased by 11.11%, in the respect aspect increased by 11.11%.
