Indonesia is a country with a high diversity of people,
one of which is in the religious aspect. In introducing the existing diversity,
the world of education has a role in creating a culture of mutual respect and
tolerance among students. This cannot be separated from the role of the teacher
as a very important figure in the learning process. The role of the teacher can
directly exemplify a commendable attitude to students. So that social science
learning as a material that is close to students' social life can be used as a
bridge to strengthen students' pluralism attitudes in the school environment.
The question in this research is how the role of social
science teachers in strengthening the pluralism attitude of students at SMPN 4
Kediri. The purpose of this study is to describe the role of social science
teachers in strengthening student pluralism at SMPN 4 Kediri. This study uses
descriptive qualitative methods with data collection techniques in the form of
interviews, observations, and documentation.
The results of this study indicate the role of social
science teachers in strengthening the pluralism attitude of students at SMPN 4
Kediri by: 1) promoting tolerance and mutual respect, 2) instilling morals in
students, 3) giving equal treatment to all students at SMP 4 Kediri, 4) learn
from the environment as an example of behaving pluralism.
In addition, the authors identify several factors that
support social science teachers in strengthening the pluralism attitude of
students at SMPN 4 Kediri including: 1) learning support books, 2) worship
rooms, 3) teachers from various religions, 4) the environment of SMPN 4 Kediri.
While the inhibiting factors of social science teachers in strengthening the
pluralism attitude of students at SMPN 4 Kediri include: 1) reduced learning
time, 2) limited student and teacher interaction, 3) the role of parents in the
process of educating students.
