Kepekaan sosial merupakan salah satu bagian dari tujuan
pendidikan nasional utamanya
dalam pembentukan karakter
peserta didik. Kepekaan
sosial sendiri merupakan
tindakan seseorang dalam melihat suatu keadaan atau situasi sosial yang
terjadi di lingkungan sekitarnya dengan cepat dan tepat tanpa adanya paksaan.
Namun pada kenyataanya, masih banyak dijumpai peserta didik yang kurang peduli
dengan manusia di sekitar dan kurang menjaga kelestarian lingkungan. Padahal manusia
merupakan mahluk sosial
yang selalu memerlukan adanya interaksi dengan lingkungan sekitarnya.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penerapan pembelajaran IPS berbasis
pendekatan contextual teaching and
learning untuk mengembangkan kepekaan sosial peserta didik. Teknik
pengumpulan data yang digunakan yaitu observasi,
angket terbuka, dan dokumentasi dengan subjek penelitian guru mata pelajaran IPS dan seluruh
peserta didik di kelas VII H
SMPN 1 Mojowarno, Jombang. Teknik analisis data dilakukan melalui tahap
persiapan, tabulasi data, dan penerapan data sesuai pendekatan penelitian.
Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penerapan pembelajaran IPS berbasis
pendekatan contextual teaching and
learning mampu mengembangkan kepekaan sosial peserta didik. Hal tersebut
dilihat berkembangnya kepekaan sosial peserta didik yang terjadi di setiap
tahapan pembelajaran sesuai dengan prinsip-prinsip pendekatan contextual teaching and learning yang
ditinjau dari tiap-tiap
sub indikator. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini memberikan pandangan tentang
bagaimana penerapan pendekatan contextual teaching
and learning untuk mengembangkan kepekaan sosial peserta didik.

Social sensitivity is one part of the main national education goals in
character building of students. Social sensitivity itself is a person's action
in seeing a social situation or condition that occurs in their environment
quickly and accurately without any coercion. However, in reality, there are
still many students who are less concerned with the people around them and less
concerned about preserving the environment. In fact, humans are social
creatures who always need interaction with their surroundings. This study aims
to determine the application of social studies learning based on the contextual
teaching and learning approach to develop students' social sensitivity. The
data collection techniques used were observation, open questionnaires, and
documentation with the research subjects being social studies teachers and all
students in class VII H of SMPN 1 Mojowarno, Jombang. Data analysis techniques
were carried out through the preparation stage, data tabulation, and data
application according to the research approach. The results of this study
indicate that the application of social studies learning based on the
contextual teaching and learning approach is able to develop students' social
sensitivity. This can be seen from the development of students' social
sensitivity that occurs at each stage of learning in accordance with the
principles of the contextual teaching and learning approach which are reviewed
from each sub-indicator. Thus, this study provides insight into how to apply
the contextual teaching and learning approach to develop students' social
sensitivity .
