OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES PARTNER
The
fast changing world requires readiness in various aspects. Knowledge and social
skilss need to be continously honed and developed in order to adapt to the
changing time. Students with low social skills tend to display prejudice, have
diffiulcty controlling their emotions, struggle to understand other’s feelings,
and lack profeciency in solving social problems. Morever, their increasing
prevalence of violence among teenager indicates moral and character
degradation, which necessitates further guidance in character development,
particularly based on the values of Pancasila, through nonformal education such
as outbound training. Outbound training is a program that involves outdoor
activitie and employs experiental learning, where participants learn through
direct experience. The purpose of this research is to examine the
implementation process of experiental learning in enhancing social skills and
national character among participants of outbound training, as well as the
obstacles enccountered in experiental learning during outbound training
activities.
This
study utilizes a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection is conducted
through in depth interviews, participant obsercation, and documentation.
Informants in this reseacrh consist of several outbound facilitator and
participatints of outbound training activities. Data analysis is performed through
data condensation, data display, and verification. To ensure data validity,
credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability are considered.
The research
findings reveal three stages of experiental learning implementation in outbound
activities : planning stage, implementation using the experiental learning
cycle, and the third stage of evaluation. Activities employed to enhance social
skills include teamwork systems, educational games, knowledge reinforcements,
nature explortaion, habituation activities, and assigments that improve basic
interaction, communication, and problem solving skills. However, team building
skills showed less improvement. As for national character development, it is
manifested through religious practice, good behavior, night reflections,
learning contracts, reward and punishments, hame rules, and enviromental
cleanliness activities, which enhance religious values and discipline among
participants in the national context. However, environmental awareness showed less
improvement. Obstacles in the implementation of experiental learning consist of
(1) planning related challanges, (2) challanges during activity implementation,
and (3) challanges related to required human resources.
