PERANCANGAN BOARD GAME PENGENALAN SEJARAH MASA BERSIAP INDONESIA UNTUK REMAJA USIA 15 – 19 TAHUN
DESIGN OF A BOARD GAME TO INTRODUCE THE MASA BERSIAP HISTORY OF INDONESIA FOR TEENAGERS AGED 15–19
This research was prompted by the monotonous nature of history lessons, which makes them unappealing, and the lack of coverage of the ‘Masa Bersiap’ historical period in the school curriculum. Based on a preliminary survey of 40 respondents aged 15–19, 72.5% felt that conventional history lessons were uninteresting, and 55% had never heard of the term ‘Masa Bersiap’. The focus of this research is to design a board game as an interactive medium to introduce the historical events of the “Masa Bersiap” period to a group of teenagers aged 15–19. The researcher utilised the Stanford Design Thinking model, comprising the stages of empathize, define, ideate, prototype and test. Data collection was carried out through observation at a board game café, interviews with a Game Master, and a literature review. The result of this research is a board game titled “For Us”, based on a chase-and-escape concept played on a game board. Based on trial results with teenagers aged 15–19, the game was deemed suitable and effective in introducing the history of the “Masa Bersiap” period, scoring 98.61% for the conceptual aspect and 96.67% for the visual aspect.
