THE EFFECT OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF USING RECYCLED CONCRETE AGGREGATES (RCA) AS A COARSE AGGREGATE SUBSTITUTION IN ASPHALT CONCRETE BASE COURSE (AC-BASE) LAYERS ON MARSHALL PARAMETERS
The increased used of sustainable and environmentally friendly construction materials is a major concern in the development of road infrastructure today. One of the innovations being studied is the use of Recycled Concrete Aggregates (RCA) as a coarse aggregate replacement in Asphalt Concrete Base Course (AC-BASE) layers. This research aims to evaluate the effect of using RCA on the Marshall characteristics of AC-BASE mixtures. The method used is laboratory testing with variations in the percentage of RCA as much as 15%, 30%, and 45%. The results showed that RCA had a bulk specific gravity of 2.055 gr/cm³, surface specific gravity of 2.150 gr/cm³, and apparent specific gravity of 2.270 gr/cm³, with water absorption of 4.60%. In this case the AC-BASE Mix with 30% RCA meets the Bina Marga specification for a minimum stability of 1800 kg, with a stability value of 1857,2 kg. the Flow value of 4.5 mm, VIM value of 4.4%, VMA 13.6%, VFA 67.8%, Marshall Quotient 412.3 kg/mm, and durability 97% show good and stable performance. Based on these results, the use of 30% RCA is recommended as the optimum composition in AC-BASE mixtures to provide stable and environmentally friendly pavement characteristics.
