EFFECT OF BACKING COMPOSITION OF
ARGON GAS (99%) AND H2 N2 GAS (20% -80%) IN THE GTAW
WELDING PROCESS WITH STAINLESS STEEL SA 312 TP 304 MATERIALS ON MICRO STRUCTURES AND HARDNESS VALUE

We can
know the hardness of GTAW welded joints can be influenced by several factors,
including the use of gas backing and the use of filler rods.
In
retrieving data this study uses descriptive statistics that describe the
results of research in tables, graphs, and photographs, then tested the
hypothesis using the t-test. The number of specimens used was 4 specimens,
which differed in composition from the gas backing. Furthermore, the specimens
used in this study were SA 312 TP 304 stainless steel pipe welded GTAW and
tested the microstructure in the parent metal and weld metal area and then
tested the hardness as much as three in each test area and the average value
was taken.
The results showed that the microstructure test in the
base metal area of the A1 A2 specimen and B1 B2 specimen was dominated by the
austenite phase crystal structure. Whereas in the weld metal area, specimens A1
A2 and B1 B2 specimens change in the phase of the crystal structure, ferrite
and bainite phases. In the BM (Base Metal) regional hardness test the highest
value was obtained with a value of 53.9 Kg on the backing of gas nitrogen
(H2N2) (20% -80%). In the HAZ (Heat Affected Zone) hardness test the highest
value was obtained with a value of 53, 9 Kg in argon gas backing (Ar) (99%), In
the WM (Weld Metal) hardness test the highest value was obtained with a value
of 56.2 Kg in argon (Ar) gas backing (99%). This is reinforced based on the
results of analysis of normality and homogeneity with results> 0.05 which
means normal-homogeneous data and in the t test, it can be seen that gas
backing has a significant effect on the value of violence because the sig
(2-tailed) value <0.05 and t count> t table, then Ho is rejected and Ha
is accepted.
