Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pentingnya peningkatan hasil belajar siswa dalam mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris, khususnya dalam memahami dan mengidentifikasi permasalahan dalam teks naratif berdasarkan jenis, struktur, dan unsur kebahasaan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran Problem Based Learning (PBL) terhadap hasil belajar siswa kelas IX SMPN 46 Surabaya. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain quasi-experimental yang melibatkan dua kelas, yaitu kelas eksperimen (IX B) yang diberi perlakuan menggunakan model pembelajaran PBL dan kelas kontrol (IX A) yang tidak diberi perlakuan khusus. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui tes pre-test dan post-test, serta lembar observasi unjuk kerja. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan uji homogenitas, uji normalitas, dan uji Independent Samples Test dengan bantuan SPSS. Hasil uji homogenitas menunjukkan bahwa data pre-test bersifat homogen, sedangkan hasil uji normalitas menunjukkan bahwa data pre-test dan post-test berdistribusi normal. Hasil uji Independent Samples Test pada data pre-test menunjukkan tidak terdapat perbedaan signifikan antara kelas eksperimen dan kontrol (Sig. = 0,077 > 0,05), sementara hasil post-test menunjukkan adanya perbedaan signifikan (Sig. = 0,027 < 0,05), yang berarti terdapat pengaruh signifikan dari penerapan model pembelajaran Problem Based Learning terhadap hasil belajar siswa. Nilai rata-rata post-test dan unjuk kerja siswa pada kelas eksperimen lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelas kontrol. Kesimpulannya, model Problem Based Learning efektif dalam meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris pada materi teks naratif.

This research is based on the importance of improving students' learning outcomes in English, particularly in understanding and identifying problems in narrative texts based on their types, structures, and linguistic features. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on the learning outcomes of grade IX students at SMPN 46 Surabaya. This research employs a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design involving two classes: the experimental class (IX B), which received treatment using the PBL model, and the control class (IX A), which received conventional instruction. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test, as well as performance observation sheets. Data were analyzed using homogeneity test, normality test, and Independent Samples Test with the help of SPSS. The homogeneity test results indicated that the pre-test data were homogeneous, while the normality test showed that both pre-test and post-test data were normally distributed. The Independent Samples Test for the pre-test data showed no significant difference between the experimental and control groups (Sig. = 0.077 > 0.05), while the post-test data showed a significant difference (Sig. = 0.027 < 0.05), indicating a significant effect of implementing the Problem Based Learning model on students’ learning outcomes. The average scores of the post-test and performance assessments were higher in the experimental class than in the control class. In conclusion, the Problem Based Learning model is effective in improving students' learning outcomes in English, particularly in narrative text material.
