Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan: (1) proses pegembangan media wayang hewan, (2) Kualitas media wayang hewan yang meliputi kevalidan, kepraktisan, dan keefektifan. Kevalidan tersebut menghasilkan lembar validasi, kepraktisan menghasilkan lembar observasi pembelajaran dan angket respon, dan keefktifan menghasilkan lembar observasi pembelajaran dan hasil tes belajar peserta didik. Penelitian ini menggunakan model pengembangan 4D Thiagarajan yang meliputi 4 tahap pendefinisian (define), perancangan (design), pengembangan (develop), dan penyebaran (diseminat). Namun, tahap penyebaran tidak dilaksanakan karena tidak termasuk secara akademik dan keterbatasan waktu penelitian. Subjek penelitian ini adalah peserta didik kelas VII D dan VII E SMPN 21 Surabaya. Teknik wawancara dan angket kebutuhan peserta didik digunakan untuk memperoleh data proses pengembangan media wayang hewan., sedangkan teknik validasi, observasi, angket respon, dan tes hasil belajar digunakan untuk memperoleh kualitas media wayang hewan.
Hasil Penelitian ini adalah media wayang hewan yang digunakan dalam pembelajaran menceritakan kembali isi teks fabel kelas VII SMP. Hasil penelitian ini antara lain (1) proses pengembangan media wayang hewan yang sesuai dengan model pengembangan 4D Thiagarajan, (2) kualitas media wayang menggunakan model pembelajaran langsung dinilai dari tiga aspek, yakni kevalidan, keefektifan, dan kepraktisan. Media wayang hewan ini baik dari dari penilai validator dosen ahli media dan guru bahasa Indonesia dari segi kegrafikan dan bahan media wayang hewan 68 % validasi dosen ahli dan 88% guru bahasa Indonesia. Pada uji coba tetrbatas dan luas media wayang hewan mendpaatkan kualifikasi sangat baik berdasarkan hasil observasi dan tes hasil belajar peserta didik. Hasil belajar peserta didik pada uji coa luas mendapatkan hasil 93,7% berkualifikasi sangat baik. Respon terhadap media wayang hewan mendapatkan hasil 94% berkualifikasi baik.

The purpose of this study is to describe: (1) the process of developing animal puppet media, (2) the quality of animal puppet media which includes validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The validity produces validation sheets, practicality produces learning observation sheets and response questionnaires, and effectiveness produces learning observation sheets and student learning test results.
This research uses the 4D Thiagarajan development model which includes 4 stages of defining, designing, developing, and disseminating. However, the disseminating stage was not implemented because it was not included academically and limited research time. The subjects of this study were students of VII D class and VII E class of SMPN 21 Surabaya. Interview techniques and questionnaires for students' needs are used to obtain data on the animal puppet media development process, while the validation, observation, response questionnaire, and learning outcome tests are used to obtain the quality of animal puppetmedia.
` This research produced an animal puppet media product which was used in learning to retell the content of fable text in seventh grade of junior high school. The results of this study include (1) the process of developing animal puppet media in accordance with Thiagarajan's 4D development model, (2) the quality of puppet media using direct learning models is assessed from three aspects; validity, effectiveness, and practicality. This animal puppet media is good from the validator assessors of media expert lecturers and Indonesian language teachers in terms of graphic and animal puppets media 68% validation of expert lecturers and 88% of Indonesian language teachers. In the limited and extensive trials of animal puppet media get very good qualifications based on the results of observations and tests of student learning outcomes. Student learning outcomes in extensive trials to get the results of 93,7% very well qualified. The response to animal puppet media get 94% well qualified.
