Analysis of the Blast Beat Technique in the song Curse of The Black Plague by Deadsquad by Roy Ibrahim

Teknik Blast Beat adalah salah satu teknik drum yang digunakan dalam genre musik Death Metal. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisa metode dalam penerapan teknik Blast Beat yang digunakan didalam lagu Curse Of The Black Plague karya Deadsquad oleh Roy Ibrahim serta mengetahui kendala yang dihadapi oleh Roy Ibrahim pada saat memainkan teknik Blast Beat pada lagu tersebut. Penelitian ini berfokus pada pertanyaan “Bagaimana metode yang digunakan dan kendala yang dihadapi dalam penerapan teknik Blast Beat pada lagu Curse Of The Black Plague karya Deadsquad”.

Data yang diperoleh dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif melalui observasi tidak langsung, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data pada penelitian ini meliputi pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil dari penelitian ini diantaranya, (1) terdapat 3 pola teknik Blast Beat pada lagu Devotion diantaranya, pola Hammer Blast, Traditional Blast, dan Bomb Blast. Ketiga pola tersebut dimainkan oleh Roy Ibrahim dengan tujuan memberikan suasana yang berbeda, mengatur dinamika lagu, serta mengatur tempo pada setiap bagian lagu, (2) kendala dalam penerapan teknik Blast Beat oleh Roy Ibrahim yakni pada saat memainkan single stroke dan double pedal yang cepat.

Blast Beat technique is one of the drum techniques used in the Death Metal music genre. The purpose of this research is to analyze the method of applying the Blast Beat technique used in the song Curse Of The Black Plague by Deadsquad by Roy Ibrahim and find out the obstacles faced by Roy Ibrahim when playing the Blast Beat technique in the song. This research focuses on the question "How are the methods used and the obstacles faced in applying the Blast Beat technique to the song Curse Of The Black Plague by Deadsquad".

The data obtained in this study used descriptive qualitative research methods through indirect observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques in this study include data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of this study include, (1) there are 3 patterns of Blast Beat techniques in the song Devotion including, Hammer Blast, Traditional Blast, and Bomb Blast patterns. The three patterns are played by Roy Ibrahim with the aim of providing a different atmosphere, regulating the dynamics of the song, and setting the tempo in each part of the song, (2) the obstacles in the application of the Blast Beat technique by Roy Ibrahim are when playing fast single strokes and double pedals.
