Principal leadership strategies are needed so that school quality remains guaranteed
by making efforts to realize teacher performance, especially in ‘sekolah penggerak’
that implements the ‘Merdeka’ Curriculum. This research aims to examine the
school principal's strategy in efforts to realize teacher performance, analyze the
description of teacher performance, and describe the implementation of the
‘Merdeka’ Curriculum. This research uses a qualitative approach, a multi-site case
study type, conducted in two schools based on similar characteristics. Data was
collected using techniques, which are in-depth interview, observation, and
documentation; and analyzed in two steps, namely, single and cross-site data. The
results show that the principal's leadership strategies at both sites consist of the
formulation or planning stage including self and school vision-mission evaluation,
analysis of the external and internal environment, joint commitment, preparation of
planning documents, and policy formulation; implementation stage by establishing
democratic communication and increasing teacher competence; and the evaluation
stage through academic supervision programs and teacher discipline development.
Teacher performance is realized by implementing the curriculum in accordance to
students characteristic, achieving, improving the quality and carrying out
professional duties with discipline in the implementation of ‘merdeka’ curriculum
starting from the learning planning stage by involving stakeholders, implementing
intra, extra, co-curricular, and character building, up to learning evaluation through
several forms of assessment.
