THE IMPACT OF EXTRACURRICULAR BASKETBALL ACTIVITIES ON STUDENTS' LEARNING MOTIVATION AND SPORTSMANSHIP BEHAVIOR

Penelitian ini menganalisis pengaruh partisipasi dalam ekstrakurikuler bola basket terhadap motivasi belajar dan perilaku sportivitas siswa di SMP Islam Terpadu Insan Kamil. Menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif, penelitian ini mengadopsi desain quasi-eksperimen pretest–posttest control group. Sebanyak 60 siswa dilibatkan dalam penelitian ini, dibagi ke dalam dua kelompok: kelompok eksperimen yang terdiri dari 30 siswa aktif dalam ekstrakurikuler basket, dan kelompok kontrol yang beranggotakan 30 siswa yang tidak berpartisipasi. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan instrumen kuesioner yang telah divalidasi untuk mengukur motivasi belajar dan perilaku sportivitas. Analisis statistik meliputi uji normalitas Shapiro-Wilk dan uji Mann-Whitney U Test sebagai metode non-parametrik.
Temuan penelitian mengindikasikan peningkatan yang signifikan dalam motivasi belajar dan perilaku sportivitas siswa setelah mereka terlibat dalam ekstrakurikuler bola basket. Hasil uji Mann-Whitney U Test mengungkap nilai signifikansi p=0,005 pada motivasi belajar dan p=0,001 pada perilaku sportivitas, yang menegaskan adanya perbedaan signifikan antara kedua kelompok pasca intervensi. Penemuan ini menyiratkan bahwa partisipasi aktif dalam ekstrakurikuler bola basket berkontribusi pada peningkatan motivasi belajar dan pengembangan perilaku sportivitas siswa. Disarankan bagi institusi pendidikan untuk memaksimalkan program ekstrakurikuler olahraga demi menunjang pembentukan karakter dan peningkatan motivasi belajar siswa.

This study analyzes the influence of basketball extracurricular participation on the learning motivation and sportsmanship behavior of students at SMP Islam Terpadu Insan Kamil. A quantitative approach was utilized in this research, employing a pretest–posttest control group quasi-experimental design. A total of 60 students were included in the study, distributed into an experimental group of 30 students actively engaged in basketball extracurriculars and a control group of 30 students who did not participate. Validated questionnaires measuring learning motivation and sportsmanship behavior were used for data collection. Statistical analysis involved the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and the Mann-Whitney U Test, a non-parametric method.
Research findings indicated a significant enhancement in students' learning motivation and sportsmanship behavior following their engagement in basketball extracurriculars. The Mann-Whitney U Test yielded significance values of p=0.005 for learning motivation and p=0.001 for sportsmanship behavior, confirming a significant difference between the experimental and control groups post-treatment. The findings imply that active involvement in basketball extracurriculars contributes to enhanced intrinsic learning motivation and the development of sportsmanlike conduct among students. It is recommended that educational institutions maximize sports-based extracurricular programs to foster character development and boost students' enthusiasm for learning.
