Sumingkir and Jadie novels: Tangis Tanpa Suara are two
different novels that share the same theme, namely the anxiety experienced by
the main characters. Based on this, the study used the approach of literary
psychology with comparative methods. The purpose of this study was to explain
the realistic, neurotic, and moral anxiety experienced by the main characters
in the two novels. The literary psychology approach used is the theory of
Sigmund Freud.
This study is qualitatively
comparative descriptive. The data source is split in two. The primary source
comes from two novels, namely Sumingkir's novel and Jadie's novel:
Tangis Tanpa Suara. Meanwhile, the secondary data source comes from
references or books that describe anxiety disorders. The data are dialogue and
narrative describing the main character's anxiety. Data collection techniques
through library studies using read and record techniques. Research data were
identified, then classified, analyzed, and summarized according to the problem
formulation. The research results are (1) realistic anxiety in Sumingkir's
novel in the form of anxiety about Jakarta City which is large and full of
danger and sexual harassment. Meanwhile, in the novel, Jadie : Tangis Tanpa
Suara is an anxiety about spiders and police. (2) The neurotic anxiety of Sumingkir's
novel involves worrying about the future, losing a job, against the opinions of others, and
worrying if his pride is lowered. Meanwhile, in the novel, Jadie : Tangis
Tanpa Suara is a fear of abandonment, which is fear of loss, anxiety about
talking to many people, and anxiety against death. (3) Moral anxiety in Sumingkir's
novels is anxiety about his forced and murderous actions and anxiety about his
actions that follow his master's lust. Meanwhile, in the novel, Jadie :
Tangis Tanpa Suara is a moral anxiety about the act of stealing and sexual
acts.
