TRANSITIVITY AND IDEOLOGY OF VERONICA KOMAN’S TWEETS DURING WEST PAPUAN UPROAR
This qualitative study aims to analyze Veronica Koman’s tweets during the West Papuan uproar in November 2019 by (1) finding out the types of transitivity process used in Koman’s tweet and (2) revealing the kinds of ideology that she wanted to convey to the masses based on the transitivity process to explain how she was one of the most influential human right activists during the uproar. Using Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) brought up by Fairclough (1989), as well as transitivity analysis which has been used by a number of previous researches (Bruns et. Al., 2013; Gladwell, 2010; Barrons, 2012), Veronica Koman’s twitter was the source of the data; with the tweets during the uproar in November 2019 as the main data analyzed. Research chart was utilized as the instruments since it eased the researcher in indicating processes and other language cues on the tweets compiled using documentation as the collection technique. It was found that Koman utilized material and mental processes of transitivity in order to convey the image of what had happened in West Papua to the whole world via her tweets; which was reflected by process cues found throughout her tweets. The study found out that many of her tweets gave images of the situation with the mental process in her tweets; moving people’s heart all across the country and the world in knowing and understanding what was happening in West Papua. Anti-authoritarian, democracy, and socialism ideology was found in her tweets, further explaining her stances as a journalist covering social- politic issues; making sure that injustice and discrimination was condemned and be frowned upon by at least Indonesian people and encouraged them to voice out their disapproval of what was happening.
