LANGUAGE POLITENESS OF STUDENTS IN THE ICP (INTERNATIONAL CLASS PROGRAM) OF SMP MUHAMMADIYAH 12 GKB, GRESIK

ABSTRAK

Fungsi utama bahasa adalah sebagai alat komunikasi. Oleh karena itu, dalam berkomunikasi, pengetahuan mengenai kesantunan berbahasa sangat penting untuk memastikan tercapainya tujuan komunikasi dan pesan yang disampaikan dapat diterima dengan jelas dan efektif. Fenomena yang sering dijumpai saat ini adalah terkait pelanggaran kesantunan berbahasa yang kerap terjadi pada usia remaja. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk, faktor, dan dampak dari penerapan dan pelanggaran kesantunan berbahasa pada siswa kelas ICP SMP Muhammadiyah 12 GKB, Gresik. Jenis penelitian adalah kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif atau dengan penggambaran kondisi yang terjadi. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah wawancara, observasi, dan kuesioner. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, ditemukan bahwa bentuk kesantunan berbahasa di kalangan siswa kelas ICP SMP Muhammadiyah 12 GKB, Gresik, tercermin dalam penerapan enam prinsip kesantunan berbahasa menurut Leech, yaitu maksim kebijaksanaan, maksim kedermawanan, maksim pujian, maksim kerendahan hati, maksim kesepakatan, dan maksim kesimpatian. Selain itu, kesantunan berbahasa dipengaruhi oleh faktor-faktor kontekstual, seperti tempat, suasana, dan peserta tutur, yang menentukan cara berbahasa siswa dalam berbagai konteks. Penerapan kesantunan berbahasa berkontribusi pada komunikasi yang lebih efektif, memperkuat hubungan interpersonal, serta menciptakan suasana yang harmonis di lingkungan pendidikan. Sebaliknya, pelanggaran kesantunan dapat menimbulkan dampak negatif, seperti ketegangan emosional, merusak harga diri, dan memperburuk hubungan sosial.

ABSTRACT

The main function of language is as a communication tool. Therefore, in communication, knowledge of language politeness is very important to ensure that the goals of communication are achieved and the messages conveyed can be received clearly and effectively. A phenomenon frequently encountered today is related to the violation of language politeness that often occurs among adolescents. The aim of this study is to describe the forms, factors, and impacts of the application and violation of language politeness among students of ICP class at Muhammadiyah 12 GKB Middle School, Gresik. The type of research is qualitative, using a descriptive method or by depicting the occurring conditions. The data collection techniques used are interviews, observations, and questionnaires. Based on the research results, it was found that the forms of language politeness among students of ICP class at Muhammadiyah 12 GKB Middle School, Gresik, are reflected in the application of six principles of language politeness according to Leech, namely the maxim of wisdom, the maxim of generosity, the maxim of praise, the maxim of humility, the maxim of agreement, and the maxim of sympathy. In addition, language politeness is influenced by contextual factors, such as place, atmosphere, and speech participants, which determine the students' way of speaking in various contexts. The application of language politeness contributes to more effective communication, strengthens interpersonal relationships, and creates a harmonious atmosphere in the educational environment. Conversely, violations of politeness can lead to negative impacts, such as emotional tension, damage to self-esteem, and deterioration of social relationships.
