THE STRUGGLE FOR HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE NOVEL MENUNDA KEKALAHAN BY TODUNG MULYA LUBIS (STUDY OF GEORGE HERBERT MEAD'S SYMBOLIC INTERACTION)

Tujuan dari penelitian ini mendeskripsikan perjuangan dalam bentuk interaksi simbolik pada konsep self, mind, dan society pada novel Menunda Kekalahan karya Todung Mulya Lubis. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah data tertulis dari sebuah novel berjudul Menunda Kekalahan karya Todung Mulya Lubis yang dikaji menggunakan pendekatan objektif dengan metode penelitian kualitatif deskriptif yang datanya berupa kata, frasa, uraian kalimat, paragraf, dan kutipan kata dalam novel Menunda Kekalahan. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik baca, simak, dan catat (BSC) serta teknik analisis datanya menggunakan analisis deskriptif. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori interaksionisme simbolik George Herbert Mead sebagai landasan berpikir dalam menganalisis datanya. Fokus kajian dan rumusan masalah penelitian ini ditemukan ada tiga konsep utama dalam teori interaksionisme simbolik George Herbert Mead yaitu mind, self, dan society.  Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan interaksi simbolik memiliki tiga konsep inti yang pertama, konsep mind dalam intekasi simbolik pada novel Menunda Kekalahan ditemukan empat prinsip pada konsepnya yaitu gestur, simbol, makna, dan tindakan. Kedua, konsep self dalam interaksi tokoh pada novel tersebut mencakup tahap penemuan jati diri dan tahap diri.  Dan ketiga, konsep society dalam interaksi pada novel tersebut ditemukan empat prinsip masyarakat, munculnya sifat simpati tokoh, konflik, dan pengalaman pribadi tokoh.

The aim of this research is to describe the struggle in the form of symbolic interaction on the concepts of self, mind, and society in the novel Menunda Kekalahan by Todung Mulya Lubis. The data source for this research is written data from a novel entitled Menunda Kekalahan by Todung Mulya Lubis which was studied using an objective approach with descriptive qualitative research methods where the data is in the form of words, phrases, sentence descriptions, paragraphs and word quotes in the novel Menunda Kekalahan. The data collection technique uses reading, listening and note-taking (BSC) techniques and the data analysis technique uses descriptive analysis. This research uses George Herbert Mead's theory of symbolic interactionism as a basis for thinking in analyzing the data. The focus of the study and formulation of the research problem was found to be three main concepts in George Herbert Mead's theory of symbolic interactionism, namely mind, self, and society. The results of this research show that symbolic interaction has three core concepts. First, the concept of mind in symbolic interaction in the novel Menunda Kekalahan found four principles in the concept, namely gesture, symbol, meaning and action. Second, the concept of self in character interactions in the novel includes the stage of self-discovery and the stage of self. And third, the concept of society in the interactions in the novel found four principles of society, the emergence of character sympathy, conflict, and the character's personal experiences.
