Application of Positive Reinforcement Group Counselling Services to Improve Study Discipline in Junior High Schools
This study aims to determine the effectiveness of group counseling services with positive reinforcement in improving the study discipline of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 30 Surabaya. The research method used a pre-experimental design with one group pre-test post-test. The research subjects were 6 students selected through purposive sampling from 90 respondents based on high score criteria (> 70) indicating low discipline. The intervention was conducted through 5 group counseling sessions with positive reinforcements. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon test with SPSS 25. The results showed that the implementation of group counseling with positive reinforcement was effective in improving learning discipline, evidenced by a significance value of 0.027 < 0.05 and a decrease in mean score from 72.00 (high category/low discipline) to 32.67 (medium category/improved discipline) with a reduction range of 31-43 points. The success of the intervention was supported by B.F. Skinner's operant conditioning theory and group dynamics providing social support.
