Permasalahan muncul dalam novel Pulang dan Laut bercerita karya Leila S. Chudori bukan karena apa yang diketahui subjek, melainkan apa yang akan dilakukan subjek. Merekonstruksi wacana permerintah orde untuk menunjukkan pertarungan kekuasaan pimpinan dan ideologi  yang terjadi. Penelitian ini menggunakan dua pendekatan teori subjek Slavoj Žižek dan New Historicism. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk dapat dimaknai momen eksil politik dan mahasiswa sebagai subjek kekosongan, bentuk-bentuk simbolik sebagai subjek sinisme, aksi kelompok mahasiswa sebagai subjek radikal, rekonstruksi kekuasaan, representasi ekonomi, representasi budaya, dan wacana pemerintah dalam novel Pulang dan Laut Bercerita. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan kualitatif. Sumber data novel Pulang dan Laut Bercerita karya Leila S. Chudori dan berupa kata, kalimat ataupun paragraf. Teknik pengumpulan data penelitian ini berupa teknik studi pustaka dan teknik baca catat. Teknik yang digunakan peneliti dalam menganalisis data ini adalah tenik hermeneutika. Teknik keabsahan data adalah triangulasi. Hasil dan pembahasan ketika subjek telah lepas dari yang Simbolik berupa fisik dan mencapai yang Nyata seperti para tokoh yang terkana doktrin pemerintah paham komunisme. Laut dan teman aktivis lainnya yang tewas, kebermanfaatan dan tujuan dapat dirasakan oleh subjek lain. Mengabaikan konsekuensi merupakan bentuk dari subjek sinis. Mereka tidak peduli terhadap dominasi pemerintah yang berada di bawah pimpinan rezim. Rekonstruksi kekuasaan pemerintah melalui negara dengan pimpinan yang didukung oleh kekuatan militer secara otoriter dan represif. Keadaan ekonomi yang sedang inflasi dan budaya Ririe Rengganis orde baru yang tidak memberi kebebasan bersuara.

Problems arise in the novel Pulang dan Laut by Leila S. Chudori not because of what the subject knows, but what the subject will do. Reconstructing Indonesian history to show the power and ideological struggles that took place. This study uses two approaches to the subject theory of Slavoj Žižek and New Historicism. The purpose of this study is to interpret student moments as subjects of emptiness, symbolic forms as subjects of cynicism, student group actions as radical subjects, reconstruction of power, economic representation and cultural representation in Leila S. Chudori's Pulang dan Laut Bercerita novel. This research method uses qualitative research. The data source is the novel Pulang dan Laut Bercerita by Leila S. Chudori and is in the form of words, sentences or paragraphs. The technique of collecting data for this research is in the form of literature study techniques and note-taking techniques. The technique used by researchers in analyzing this data is the hermeneutic technique. Data validity technique is triangulation. Results and discussion when the subject has separated from the symbolic in the form of physical and reached the real as the figures who are subject to the doctrine of the communist government. Laut and other activist friends who died, usefulness and goals can be felt by other subjects. Ignoring consequences is a form of cynical subject. They don't care about the domination of the military under the regime. Reconstruction of power through a state with leadership supported by military forces in an authoritarian and repressive manner. The inflationary economic situation and the culture of the New Order era did not give freedom.
